Just changed job and now commuting 100 miles a day - all motorway and lots of crappy traffic jams.

Love my scooby to bits but tempted to change for something that is cheaper to run and also looks a bit more ordinary (new job doesn't suit a Scoob as a company car).

Don't really want to spend much more than I would get for my Scoob this now (MY99 UK - Tek 2.5 - 50k miles - new toyos, cambelt, 45k service, etc) but something that is a decent size (I'm a big chap!) and also possibly an auto (for the start stop).

Any ideas out there?

Might get a scooby or a lotus as my second car again in 6 months time when the pennies can afford it.

I'm in a similar position. Looking for an Audi A6 1.9td at the moment. Returns an easy 50mpg on the motorway

Shame to have to lose the Scoob but the next 6-9 months need something else.

Been looking at Volvo S80's as well. You can get a V plate 2.5tdi with leather and the works for around £10,800 at dealers (around 70k miles on the clock).

 

Just saw a W reg S80 with 35k on the clock . 2.4SE petrol with leather, auto and all the toys for £10,995 at a dealer. A lot of car for the money.

Amazing seats.

 

I looked at the Volvo S80 too. Nice cars. There's a new generation diesel engine come in - it's called the D5. A real performer apparently, but out of my (and your) price range unfortunately

 

Even worse is that I'm now thinking about a Volvo estate!!!!

Even finding myself justifying, i.e. doing work to the house and need the carrying space, got a dog, etc, etc.

Don't know what's happened to me......

 

I am doing something similar - flogged the Impreza, got a Seat Leon TDI 110... cheap as chips to run, and as it's a X plate no MoT or anything to worry about yet.

Will be after a fun car again when a few things sort themselves out next year.

Scotsman... Golf sized, 5 door decent boot... last weekend I went from Southampton to Nottingham with me, the wife, the baby in a car seat, the dog in half the boot a pram and our luggage in the other half of the boot.

Cost... £11 each way in diesel

Insurance... £200 / year with protected NCB!!!!

My Leon's an import, so I got a sunroof and 6 way CD player in the glove box. Servicing is cheap too, and it only needs it every 10k miles. Seat dealers are happy to work on imports.
