Just drove a Civic Type R - Sweet!

Gearsticks perfect, like a touring car Seems a bit strange at first, but once you get used to it, its excellent.
The steering does lack feel, cant say I noticed any problems with the handling. Thirsty when driven hard, yep.
Wheelspin can be a problem, in the wet I can wheel spin away through the first three gears.

Having been in the 1.0l polo for two weeks now I was in bad need of driving something that could actually accelerate! I decided, on the basis that so many people rate them, that I shouldn't buy a scooby without first trying the CTR.
I have to say I was very impressed, it was a smart looking car and seems very well screwed together although the build quality was very dodgy at points
Once I got behind the wheel I was very impressed with the low down pull, not as bad as people say. Then just as we got to about 6000rpm the VTEC cams did there thing. Until this point I've never driven and Honda so I didn't know what to expect! It was very impressive, a bit like a turbo coming in, the car just took off. The only downside is that it was a very short lived burst. Nevertheless, provided you kept it in the 'zone' it would comfortably thrash the VTS and would have no real problems with the new WRX either. Didn't chuck it around much but the steering felt meaty and the suspension nice and tight but not crashy.
No doubt, its probably the best hot-hatch going but I still think that the 4WD turbo-charging thing is needed to float my boat. All in all a very enjoyable experience

Coming back from France about a month ago, 4 up, boot full of booze, I found I could only just stay with an Ibiza Cupra!! when we got into traffic, and I could get close enough to read it, I could see "TypeR" on the back. I was quite impressed, as he did really well along the twisties, Mind you, he was only 2 up and prob empty boot.

Hi gang......
My other half recently got herself a CTR and believe me when I say it's a cracking car......great build quality, superb engine and gearbox......it can definitely match a WRX in the dry, but no contest in the wet! The high-speed stability of the car really impresses me.......the steering doesn't go all light and vague like it does in my Turbo.....
Cheers
DBM
PS: The Turbo kills it in all conditions!!!!

CTR I disagree with that one. It was defo faster than the new WRX but on old MY99 (even from 60-100) would take the Type R. Not by a massive amount I hasten to add.
This quoting thing? Do you just cut and paste the desired text in between the [ quote] box things? Also, how do you do bold?

The problem I have is convincing the guy in the garage I'm really interested in buying it I'm sure I'll get round to it one day.
CTR. Agreed....to disagree that is
[bold]just trying[/bold]
Nuts!! I've tried lots of Bold combinations and can't do it! I give up!

Sometimes people are hard to convince, I find it best turning up at a garage in a good car if I want test drives.
I drove the Civ Type R for a week, had a it on demo like.
I have to say it felt instantly quick, and the ability to wheel spin it down the road was amazing. It does feel mega rappid, really instantly urgent - I liked it. Power on tap.
However, Id had a Teg Type R and was bored of fwd cars, so didnt go for it in the end - got a WRX.
However a mate of mine does have one, he is a test engineer for a big car co - specifically chasis dynamics, so knows a lot about cars. He likes the his Civ, but slates the steering and handling. that seems to be a common view.
I also found they were as thirsty as a scooby, espw when ragged.

Excellent!
Had a good poke around the interior as well. The gear shifter takes a little getting used to buy the gear change is quite slick and precise. That said I did miss a gear at have the revs fly up in N. Doh! The steering seemed not to bad but there wasn't as much feedback as the saxo. The wheel was really small as well, but kinda cool and sporty. There is also the biggest cubby hole ever down where the gear stick should be It massive, you could store entire meals in there!!

I also tried one before buying my scoob. Looks nice in Black but Silver is too easy to miss. The recaro-esque seats are very nice but apart from that the interior is nothing special. The gearstick position seems weird but is very natural and that 6-speed box is the slickest Ive ever used.
It is a fast car without a doubt but I wouldnt say it was any faster than a new WRX - it may seem it because its a smaller car. At £16,500 basic (no a/c or met paint) it is not that cheap either. The exhaust note is very tinny at low revs and the mpg seemed harsh. I used half a tank doing a 75 min test drive.
At the end of the day I chose the scoob not just cos its fast but because it has character. The bonnet scoop, the flat 4 warble (even with standard BB) and the aggressive looks are something to add to the obvious performance aspect. Add to that the entire social aspect with drivers greeting each other on the roads and going to meets with fellow scoobynetters etc.
Simon.
P.S and then there are all the mods you can do to make your scoob indivudual

I'm sure CTR will agree with me here but I think the CTR would wipe the floor with the new WRX. I've driven one of these and because of the turbo it felt a little quicker than the CTR but from watching the speedo I recon the little civic would take it. Just my humble opinion, will look forward to seeing the two lined up next to each other at Crail, etc.

On paper the CTR is faster 0-100 that the new WRX, by about 1 second....
I got the CTR over a Scoob cus the Scoob is now so popular and common, IMHO they HAD character but u see so many now u dont bat an eyelid and so detracts from the car being 'different' which it obviously once was.

I've got a CTR sat on my drive at the moment - I'm 5 days into a week test drive with it. Very impressive motor.
FOR'S
VTEC grin
Not many about (two people have already commented in car parks)
Very fast when you keep it in the band
Excellent pull from low revs (in comparison to the Scooby)
Grip is superb
More economical than my Scooby. £30 for 240 miles as opposed to £37. Same run including motorway and urban.
Against
B1tch drive in the wet with all that power through two wheels. But with practice would probably be fine.
Electric window won't go up on auto (that really bugs me)
Seats don't return to their original position if you let someone in the back.
Would I prefer a Scooby - Yes, every time. I love my scooby but company car tax is killing me in the wallet and the CTR is a damn good alternative so if you bring cost into it then the CTR is a winner for me. Plus 4 wheel drive is much more forgiving when you make mistakes.
So will I get a CTR - Almost certainly. Does what I want with the right image, i.e. not a girls car and a not rep mobile spin off!! (opinion of course)
