Any M2 owners?
Interested to know real life maintenance/running costs as i've only just started looking at these after giving up on the Merc I was after.
Looking for expensive items that have to be done like does it have ceramic discs that cost a fortune etc. Off to do research obviously but thought i'd ask here whilst I was looking. i'm looking at a 2016 with around 27-30k miles.

Yup.
so far no issues but car is very low mileage and not a daily.
Mpg is low 20s but does get 32 in 7th gear on a run.
no ceramic discs on mine and I'm pretty sure none came with them but its an option on the newest Cs version although there is an option for 6 pots
they are pretty reliable, this is my second.
no issues on first either
servicing has the m tax at dealers but a decent independent its no more than you would expect.
Only minor complaint is they pick up stone chips at the front a lot

Oh and my first was a manual, this one dct
I dont care what the waffle on YouTube and pistonheads says the dct is far better to me and adds to the experience.
if you are tall like me the leccy seats sit a bit higher that can cause issues.
Try and get one with the m sport carbon bits.
my old one had them sadly new one doesn't but will have soon

Thanks for the replies. Not an A45 but the CLA45 is the car i've been after but I can't help looking at the M2 for about the same money. I've driven the CLA and whilst blisteringly fast in a straight line I was not overly impressed with the auto box even in sport+ I thought it lagged and wasn't what I was expecting from my first experience with paddle shift. It's somewhat put me off auto boxes and to look for manual cars. Also yes the handling is important to me as I have a fiesta st-3 and whilst it's slow compared to these cars it's handling and general driving experience still puts a smile on my face and I keep thinking about not changing at all.
I've yet to drive an M2 and there are none close by for me to try. I'm trying to work out if the M2 is going to cost a lot more to run than the Merc but servicing is 2 years on the M2 and annually on the Merc so that is quite a difference (mileage won't come into play as I only do about 5k a year).
I have independent specialist and main dealers locally for both.

Its a one trick pony for 0 to 60 times, boring handling like all Haldex cars.
dct box in the m2 is very good, dont get it confused with the zf box fitted to a lot of other bmws.
very quick when in sport+ .

Thanks, I really need to drive one to compare it against what disappointed me with the CLA box.

Is the M2 fine to be a daily driver? The Merc is and I assume the M2 is as well but want to make sure it's not going to suffer with short journeys/trip to the shops etc as long as it gets a decent run once a week? I'm thinking it's going to be a lot more thirsty on fuel than the Merc?

Cheers so like remaps then but for other bits than just the engine ecu.

Apart from the attention it seems to attract when parked up its fine.
stick it in comfort and auto with exhaust valves closed its a pretty pleasant drive, they are well equipped.
these cars are always a compromise but its a pretty decent trade off .
even the tax on dct version is 250 quid ish, it definitely is more fuel efficient than my old sti impreza

no idea of yearly maintenance etc as I've not done anything but indy servicing is OK.
I'll leave this for you....

Another question - why is the manual worse on fuel economy than the auto? That is the reverse of any experience i've had with manuals vs autos where in the same model of car autos have always been way more thirsty?
#22
at motorway speeds the auto revs less.
I'm guessing its due to this.
Modern dual clutch autos all seem to return more mpg, dont confuse then with old slush boxes.
I'd try both, if you watch YouTube or read forums everyone says manual is the way to go, mostly written by people who have owned neither.
Having a manual first then a dct,in my option the dct makes the car better.

As ej20 has said..... modern dual clutch boxes are a mile away from older gen torque converter pieces of crap. Modern boxes (depending on manufacturer) can be sublime. IMO the BMW DCT is near the top of the pile, only beaten by Porsche and PDK I suspect. BMW is better than MB and VAG boxes imo from personal experience.

Thanks for the replies both and they were a help in considering the choices. I've made a difficult decision between the 2 cars today and gone with the Merc over the M2 mainly due to running costs (especially fuel) and the Merc is more practical for my needs with the extra doors for getting my children in. Bit of a step up from a Fiesta ST-3 (I bloody love mine with the mountune and will miss it) and even my 2 scoobs as they were both only lightly modded UK2000s.
The M2 looks and sounds the better car and is probably more fun to drive but being more costly was an issue ultimately and an M3 4 door is out of my reach in terms of running costs and price.

It's the one reason i've bought from a main dealer and got 2 years AMG warranty and if I get any issues during the next 2 years it will be sold and i'll get something else. I just hoping the warranty is as good as they say it is! The one i've got is spec'd out with sports exhaust, pan roof, mirror pack and in white with the black 19" wheels it's the only colour and spec I wanted. Yeah all dealers are untrustworthy my mate has an R8 and he won't let Audi near it and takes it to the independent specialist he bought it from half way across the country for absolutely anything and everything as he trusts them, even for it's MOT.
