Question Best tyres for 5 series M-Sport?

Currently on Goodyear nct-5 runflats, absolutely shockingly bad in the wet.

Any recommendations, particularly for wet grip?

My X3 came with Pirelli P Zero runflats and they seem pretty good in the wet.

I've been happy with the p zeros on the rear of my 535i .. kumhos on the front.. seem ok.. but they were a right pig to fit with the extra load side walls!

Also don't bother with run flats! Terrible ride, tyres a pig to fit, expensive l.. and cases people haven't noticed the flat and kept on driving.. never had a blow out.. easy enough to notice the car pulling to one side and fitting a spare. . Safer too!

I use Goodyear asymetric 2's and they grip nice. Run flats were a nightmare.

Heard mixed reports about using non rft's, how does it affect the handling?
Does it activate the warning indicator?

So far yet to find a BMW run flat that gives a nice ride. Wet grip is subjective..as I'm used to AWD so every time I hoof it in the BMW in the wet I have "issues" with grip/traction, ahem

So far had Good Year Excellence and Pireli P-zero on our F07s with both 19" and 20" rims (I since swapped cars for one with 19" wheels and adaptive shocks which has a better ride than 20" on non adaptive SE shocks/springs).

I normally don't rate Pirellis on wet grip especially in cooler temperatures but their run flats are a better (obviously their run flats have a totally different structure, so perform different to their non-run flat of the same model). The trade off is they are noiser, maybe a bit harder ride too

Goodyear Excellence...quieter. Ok grip maybe not as good as the Pirelli. And maybe it's bad luck but I've so far had two failures...one was a egg on the sidewall (which I later found the tyre had two patch repairs inside...so may have been driven deflated and damaged, then repaired by the previous owner). The second failed tyre is still on the rear of the car...but it's gone out-of-round like a flat spot when driving...obviously a structural issue as the inner edge has since worn very rapidly despite correct pressures and geometry checked. The same age tyre on the other side is fine.

I have to have RFTs due to having no space for a spare tyre when doing cross-Europe journeys. If it wasn't for this i'd ook at non Runflats and a mobility kit (I carry a compressor and tyre sealant anyway).

Think I'll look at a pair of Michelins next...I've got a price quotes and they about £15 a tyre more than the Goodyears. Think it was £170 each for 275/40/19 edit: that might be +vat so add 20% to that.

Edit2: still seems cheap...think I may have been quoted for non-RFTs...doh!

Edit3: no it's the right price...it's just for Pilot Primacy 3 not Pilot Sport 3

The tyre warning still comes on when the tyres are low but the handling is far better. Mine is a 530 barge and driving back from TOTB today I was happily sitting at high 90's in the bends with no drama.

Just bought a space saver and a brand new set of Asymmetric 3 XL's.

Getting them fitted Monday, can't wait to get these fooking ditchfinders off.

A specific wet tyre for these big German cars is Dunlop sport maxx RT, they do a GT version which is more dry capable, I have the GTs on my Audi and tbh they are really good in both conditions but again I have the t3 Quattro system.
I've replaced with same tyres as I like them so much for my normal commutes.
It's all down to road nois, grip and wear for me so stuck with them.

Obviously the names above like PS3, assy2/3, mitchellen are also good but they all have their downfalls and plus, you just need to pick a tyre for YOU.

Run flats are like cheese graters compared to normal tyres, you can't compare feel n grip IMO.

Just sold my 530d m sport, it was mapped to 300bhp and 705nm, never had a problem with goodyear eagle f1 asymetric 2. Brilliant grip and stuck out quite about with a 35 profile on the 19s offering protection to the rims!
