Default Future classic

What cars do you think will be a future classic? I was thinking in a good few years the Porsche 996 will be reaching that sort of status but what other cars do you think will be there?

MX5.Mind you,suppose it is a classic already.

Very difficult nowadays because for all their brilliance, modern cars are rubbish.Do not think anything built after 1995 will become a classic.Like todays pop music.Good for a few weeks then forgotten forever

Lotus Exige S1/S2
Lotus Elise S1
Subaru P1
Honda NSX
Mitsubishi Evo Tommi Makinen (red with stripes)
R32 V-Spec Nissan Skyline GTR
EP3 Honda Civic Type R
E46 BMW M3
Mk1 MX5
Renault Clio V6
Renault 172 Cup
Citroen Saxo VTS
Pug 205 GTI

Some of these I've mentioned are already at classic status. Look at the price of a Clio V6

That's the problem exactly. We all know all of the above are classics, but what will be a future classic built after 2010 say? Maybe the porsche and the F type ,but what else?

Same with the Makinen Evo, think that's going to go down in my personal car history as something I missed the boat on.

Agree with the 996. Usually only the Turbos/C4s or GT cars, but even the "cooking" (Carrera 2 & 4) versions have escalated in value. Even WITH the scare-stories of chocolate engines. I'll have had mine for 4 years this October. Should I decide to sell up, I'll pretty much break even (inc engine rebuild!)

But that said, there's a market for cars (any car for that matter) that are looked after. There always will be.

So, other cars? 306 GTi6 (Phase 1)
I missed the boat on a Ferrari 348..... was looking 4 yrs ago. Circa £26k would have sealed the deal. £40k MIGHT get you into one now.

I'd say the Nissan R34, but (and this applies to many of these types of car), the key is to find an unmolested version. That'll be challenge!

But it depends also what we define as a future classic. Is it just cost?

Obvious ones: any air-cooled Porsche; any Porsche with 'turbo' in the name, sadly proven with the 996 turbo, the price of which has gone through the roof.

Think we have missed the boat on these ones you have listed!!! Look at prices 5-10 years ago to how much these cars are now, I remember in 2010 a sub 40k mile red Tommi Mak Evo 6 come up for sale that I was thinking about viewing, and the guy was struggling to shift it at £12k, same car now £25-30k

I think the mk1 Focus RS will eventually get stupid on value in 10-15 years, they made 4501, from memory think there are just a little over 2000 that come to the UK. Unlike the other FRS MK2/MK3 that where/are made in larger numbers.

Nissan skyline R33
Just like the R32, in another couple of years early ones will be legal in the US.
Americans will go crazy for them and prices shoot up. Thats if this 25 year thing america has certain imports (dont know huge amount about this).
already a classic in most eyes and potentially a valuable classic if invested in now.
This doesnt just apply to this car, many other popular classics will pop into this.

Not to sure, the decent ones(GSR) are around the same price £8-10k as they have been the last 5 years and the dog ones with AYC lights on dash etc can still be bought for under £6k.

Been looking for a Evo 6 the past few months and £10k can still get you a half decent one(sub 80k miles, good bodywork condition etc, looked after, UK Ralliart car)

Snap!

I'm assuming that it's just a poor man's Dimma 'replica' of a WRC T16? Or does it have the hardware - or at least serious power - to match?
