Does it make it more fun or do the frustrations of front wheel drive show their limitations? Certainly will be a good power to weight. What engine speed do you hit full boost and what is the red line?

Id imagine quite low revs 2500? It's a small turbo, maxed out at that power. Td04 sized

I bet that thing shifted, what turbo is that?

It really is fun to drive now, it really does grip better than you would think.

The power delivery is smooth too, even coming out of bends isnt the end of the world.

Its over 250bhp/tonne which is brilliant in a straight line, its not too bad off the line either for a fwd turbo car.

I will eventually get a diff in the future along with other bits and bobs, its never ending

Redline is 7250 and it pulls hard all the way, no tailing off, the gt2560 is the old gt28, before they all changed to gt2860rs etc iirc.

Its good for 330hp

That's nice, that turbo is the same one I was going to put on my old mx5 albeit the R until I decided to break.
Very good spooling turbos

Turbo is a garrett t35 originally designed for cosworth yb.
Makes 236bhp at 5 psi boost. Weighs less than 1 ton! Quarter mile in 13.7 on crappy non prepped track.
Up for sale at the moment for £2500

Yes its a very good turbo with hardly any lag I love it, really smooth and pulls to the redline nicely

No lag with 10.5:1 compression ratio and only 5 psi boost, revs to 7500 no bother!

boosted,
You sure it has no lag. I had a large turbo Escort Cossie (two of them), and tbh the T35 was pretty laggy...... even when everything else around it had been modified. The smaller turbo Escort was head and shoulders better for lowdown response/spool, which was more akin to the equivalent year JDM STI Subaru at the time.

Also why spec a t35 when a t25 would have been a better option. Running only 5 psi it seems a folly going for the 35, which was laggy in the Escort Cosworth.

Was it 10.5:1 compression ratio and only running .3 bar/5 psi boost though? 👍

T25 is not big enough, car makes 236bhp at 5 psi on std compression with no Intercooler,
T25 would need to make much more boost for same power, creating too much heat and also necessitating lower compression and Intercooler.
Think of it as a supercharger

Got you. Would it be worth having an intercooler?

How does high compression enable a turbo to be less laggy?

Not required with the large turbo and low boost. If we wanted more power then yes, but that would also mean lower compression, clutch, injectors and different engine management...

Because the VE is higher.
Lag is also only the difference between no boost and boost, and if your only running 5 psi then that's not really a problem!

I'm not sure how increased VE will influence "turbo lag"...... it could very well influence boost threshold though, and will undoubtedly (all things being equal) have increased power/torque.

I did miss the point about how little boost you were running though, and if you're not using a cooler, I suspect your pipe runs are very short (good thing). Obviously with the low boost requirements from a larger turbo, means that temps are well managed...... it's an interesting approach.

Unfortunately second gear went on the clio Friday, i have already ordered a new one and its getting booked in to be fitted with Andy at clioturbo for a great price.

The good thing about these clios is that you can pick up a low mileage box off cliosport for in the region of £100-£200 so its not the end of the world really.

So heres a few pics i took before the box went, i decided to have my alloys painted gold and i know they wont be to everyone's taste but i like them.

Cliobaru 182..

I bet that puts a lot of things to shame when your side by side!

What was your terminal speed on the qtr mile?

I'd love that motor, although I'd be buying up a few of those gearboxes for the future myself...

Hi Timmy, i didnt end up taking it up the strip but i will eventually.

Im going to get the old box thats coming out refurbished and keep it as a spare

Im eventually going to opt for the vag 6 speed 02m box with diff, but that cost quite a bit so i opted for the option i could afford for the time being.
