No effect of wind resistance on the dyno though.

My Scooby would've blown its top with that coolant temperature. And the gauge is an idiot gauge here, filtered from reality and designed to sit at 90 until it decompensates. There would no doubt be much higher localised boiling points.

Don't they datalog and check the temperatures? It was according to the gauge rising at 2C/second, but you really can't tell with an idiot gauge.

Surely there are better ways of showing you've removed the speed limiter.

How slow does that car accelerate, and just cause the speedo reads 200mph doesn't mean that was the speed. I did a 30-130 event and on a top speed run mine was about 170mph on the gps unit provided but my speedo read at 192mph.

Years ago I had a Vectra GSi, the earlier 2.5 version. I had read that they were supposed to be 192bhp on paper so of course I took it to a RR to see what was actually happening. The guy asked me what I thought it was going to make and I replied if it was below 170bhp there's something wrong. So, it made 183bhp which I was happy enough with. He did the top speed which showed 155mph on the RR computer and 156mph in the car. Surely then Mercedes would be just as accurate if my old 98 Vectra was?? Just sayin!

Have you seen the topgear vid with James doing a run in a veyron to attempt it's top speed.
He explains how the car needs about 200bhp to do about 150mph then about 500 to do 200mph but to do that extra 50mph to take it from 200-250 you need an extra 500 bhp.

The numbers I've put will be WAY off but the point is that pushing air out of the way multiples in a big way the faster you go and the power need is unreal. The veyron ss (if thats what it's called) has a extra 300bhp or so over the standard car plus new aero for the sake of an extra 10mph.

So with the correct gearing a punto could **** 200mph with no wind, maybe not **** it but ya get my point.

To right John. I've lost count of the number of engines I've seen clearly overheating, yet have the temperature guage sat slap bang in the middle (90degrees) and not budge. OBD live data showing 110degrees. Laser thermometer showing 130 at the thermostat housing.

Granted its usually clapped out Fords and Rovers with blown head gaskets. But its the same situation for all modern cars including Subarus (how many threads do you see on here where a owner's Scoob is boiling over out the expansion tank, but the temp guage says normal! ).

I find that hard to believe, 190mph maybe but 191mph......come on

On a serious note, i can believe that no problem. Areo is important for fuel economy and a 7 speed box in a light(ish) car with over 400bhp. (Bet he was going down a big hill though )

That's impressive, as that does keeps powering through, what appears to be pretty effortlessly.

You got to remind yourself that this is still only a 2ltr!
