They had turbo Skylines since the end of 70's. The Y-reg u've seen (if it's really that age) should be a R30.

Have you seen those old Mazda 626 coupes ?

They look like an early Skyline, especially the one I saw with no badges and different rear lamps !

The styling of mid-80's Jap cars are all very similar.
Btw, Skyline is Nissan's longest running model name, I think the 1st Skyline is at the end of 50's & Nissan inherited the name from Prince, which they bought then.

No, Australian made Skylines all had wimp engines (apart from the imported GT-R, which I doubt u can rent it anywhere there). The last Skyline they had there was the R31, & they continue making it there well beyond it being replaced in Japan. I think the largest engine in the Skyline they had over there is the 3 litre six RB series engine. If I remember correctly the engine has abt 160bhp.

indeed correct guys and impressed with the skyline knowledge. Indeed the name skyline goes back years and has sth to do with the road that runs up to Mount fuji and this is why they named the GTR as so. The road points toward the skyline and away they go....
All the young jap dudes racing up there in their hot rods so it was deemed as a good name sto adopt for a monster car.
Also known as Godzilla in japan and Australia.
Good work.

lol,
The 1st Skyline was a very sedate saloon. The 1st Skyline GT-R came out at the end of 60's (model code PGC10), the next GT-R was the PGC110 & that was made until 1977. Then there was a gap of 12 yrs of which the GT-R was absent from the Skyline range. It was only the R32 series in 1989 that Nissan bought back the GT-R, & it was it's utter dominance in touring car racing in Japan & Asia/Oz that finally made ppl notice the Skyline.
The name Godzilla was given by the Aussies in the early 90's as the Gr.A R32 dominated their touring car scene. In Japan, it is just known as the 'GT-R'.
