Blackpool Lights ... 'please read'
Dear All,
It has come to my attention that this event, has been publicised on several other car forums.......
It is a hard decision to make, as so many people are looking forward to this, and with the potential to raise a nice sum of money for charity, but, At the risk of this going out of hand, i am looking for your opinion on do we keep it, or cancel.
If we do keep it, then, i cannot be held responsible for those who have chosen to advertise this elsewhere, as something it is not.
For those who have posted this elsewhere, can you please amend your forums ....as this is not a cruise, it a meet of like minded, car owners.
Also, there is not going to be Police escort.....they are merely going to help us get into the queue as a unit.
the 'Blackpool Big One' clearly has a massive potential audience, and could in future with proper management be a massive event, but with respect to those who quoted on that forum, the danger we face is having the Police all over us, rather than being in our favour which they are currently. I have spent alot of time convincing both the Blackpool Police units, and Blackpool Tourism to allow this, but some of the comments posted in the following forum, have given 'me' cause for concern. ( i stress that this is my opinion , and does not reflect the view of anyone else)
Please read the following thread.
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=113259
Whilst i have put a lot of effort into organising this, i would for our own reputation, be happy to cancel........
I am going away from monday am, until friday ......
So, its up to us all ........ please voice your opinion, when i come back on friday....At 7pm, i will count the 'cancel' or keep' s, and its majority vote.
This is intended to be a charity meet , and drive thru...please lets keep it to that.
i hope i havent offended anyone ...
Frank

Make this thread into a poll if you know how Frank, it will be easier to monitor that way
I agree though, don't want it to be ruined by it turning into a cruise, then getting it stopped by the police, when they're supporting us at the moment.

Appreciate the comments, and I have just read the forum link you posted
Who said it was open to all and sundry, I dont ever recall it being anything like that at all?????
Im also away until Friday (from Monday too) but I will try and keep my eye on this thread
I for one would be dissapointed if it were to be cancelled, and really hope that it isnt
But I will go with the Majority descision
If it is cancelled, there may be an alternate solution should it come to that
Ill PM you about it
Steve

It will be a big pity for this event to be canx. I will go with the majority desission too.
For once I was looking forward to driving 235 miles to get to this 1. I don't want this turned into a cruise. Its a meet for charity end of story. I'll be keeping a carefull eye on the threads.
Frank has spent too much time and effort for us not to pull this off.

Exactly Steve, it wasn't, but some seem to think it's OK to gatecrash and ruin in for everyone else
I cant miss out on all those Birthday presents can I
Seriously tho, I now may have someone coming up from Stoke just to watch us drive through as well (making their own way up too, with the Son)

Im glad that those of you who have read this so far, have drawn the same conclusion as me...
I dont recall advertising it as a 'free for all'.
Please, give a 'yes' or 'no'....... or i will have to go with the sentiment of the comments.
Yes, it will be a big blow, and as for the effort, well thats of least importance right now...... I too, have non scoob related friends intending to make the trip just to watch ...

If the other forums back off and give us our own space, then yes. If not then and it pains me to say it, it has to be canx.
I am a no to canx the event. But read above.

Thanks for the heads up frank, but I would say NO to cancelling. I'll get over and register on the SXOC forum, and let them know they have been given false info.
keep this as purely a scooby event, "the blackpool NBO" NO OTHER CARS AT ALL.
If other clubs want to organise something similar, the lights are on for ages, and they can choose another weekend, not gatecrash ours. Let the police know what has happened, and you have nothing to do with any cars other than scoobys. Its down to us all to police our own, but we cant be held responsible for other groups turning up.
There is no way you can cancel, go ahead, raise the money, show what a bunch of responsible old farts we are and do it again the next year and the next
Off to post on SXOC now, wish me luck
chris.

Thanks to those who have posted up links.....
Hopefully you will appreciate my concern...
Whilst all this publicity is good in one sense, especially to raise money for charity, the sentiment i read from the other forums is hinting at cruise mentality...something which i do not want.
If this is to go ahead, then the people writing this have to go back, and reword it ...
If the sentiments of their writings dont change, then for the reputation of scoobynet, and all those associated, i will have no alternative but the pull the plug...
Please, continue to add your comments..
Thanks
Frank

this is what I'll post when I get my account activated!
Is that ok?
chris.
Hi guys, chris here from scoobynet
I have some bad news for you. The event posted by Scottie is not a Jap Performance Car meet, it doesn't have a "police escort and we have not invited the Skyline and Evo owners clubs to it.
Therefore, it is a scooby only event. If you've got a scooby, your more than welcome to join in. If you havn't, your not, sorry.
The organiser, redwrx, has spent a great deal of his personal time and energy on this event, watching it grow over the last 2 years, from a small convoy of scoobys through the lights, to last years 40+. Now, he has organised over 70+ at the last count, got permission of the Police to "guide" us through the lights onto the prom, not escort, and been in talks with Blackpool council and Halfords for use of the carpark.
If you want to come down and watch, you are more than welcome, it will be an amazing sight, plus we'll raise some extra cash off you for the charity redwrx has chosen, but you can't take part in our convoy.
Thats not to say you couldn't convoy after us, but you wont get the same level of treatment off the local police, and would probably get split up at the lights.
I hope you all can appreciate the time and effort that has gone into this, and other scooby events, like the NBO.
Please keep it scooby, not jap performance.
Thanks for your time,
chris.

How many entrances / exits are there to the Halfords car park?
Would it be possible to do a bit of 'DIY policing', (or ask some nice real police people) to make sure only Scoobs get to park in there on the night?
I'd have to leave the Evo at home, and come in the STi, but I'm prepared to make that sacrifice

After all your efforts there is only one answer - go ahead with it.
If you spread the word on the forums that this is scooby only, and a little 'polite' control on the night and all should be well. (Maybe I am making it sound too simplistic?).
Good luck with it Frank and I am sure that whatever you decide, no-one here will hold it against you.

Blackpool meet
Hi all
Ref the Blackpool meet. It would be a great shame to have it canx, but here's an idea redwrx, you have everyones name that have provisionally registered to attend, so why not have a list at halfords and one to the police and maybe for example a sticker or identification so that makes us stand out from joe public, or we could e mail you personally with our registrations. I know this probably sounds a lot of hassle, but its just an idea.

It would be a great shame to have to cancel this after so much effort has gone into it, the problem i see is that no matter what alternative you organise it will get out and end up been on other forums, due to Scoobynet been a public forum.
I would say go ahead with it, like has been already mentioned, and marshall the Halfords car park allowing only Scoobs in ....
Just my opinion ....

QUOTE]
There is only 1 and is off a very small island. When I say small I mean it. All the roads off could be blocked by 1 car, sealing the entrance to halfords, but leaving enough room for a car to get by.

still no sign of my activation! I'll check again at tea time tonight.
Glad to see the majority think it should still go ahead, and proposals to police the event allowing only scoobys in is a good one.

Why cancel something on public roads? Its not a private party. Fair play to organising the event, but to start cancelling runs out in case non-scoobs turn up is a little odd.
So a few "cruisers" turn up and get stopped, what will happen to you? Nothing, its a public road.
Just go ahead with it, and everyone drive as you would normally and all will be fine. For an event like this publicised on the internet you will never get exclusive rights to the route.
I guess I wont be allowed to this one though with me not having a Scoob

Dream Weaver......... I understand what you're saying.....
BUT...................While not trying to exclude anyone, Frank (redwrx) has had permission for a large scale scooby meet for charity, not a cruise, if loads of other cars (cruisers) turn up and make it into a cruise, the police will stop it all, not just them, which is why Frank is inclined to cancell.
It took him a while to persuade the local authorities that this was a run for charity and not just another excuse for a cruise. First whiff of a cruise to the police and and there will be NO BBO, this year, or any other.
I'm sure anyone that has their SN names down will be welcome, but surely you can see where Frank's coming from when he says he doesn't want it to turn into a cruise meet ?
As Frank isn't about this week, he's unable to answer for himself.
