Still trying to decide whether to buy an EU import or UK (fooking strong Euro, grrr) but spoke to main dealer in Otley and he said they won't service any imports at all. Is he talking bull trying to disuade me ?
Savings are smaller now but still there, WRX for around £18k, Emporer can even supply with PPP. Sorely tempted by Motorpoints STi8 @ £21.5k.

 

K T Greens will not service imports if you can travel R N Goldens will there at lepton Huddersfield. Just be aware thast if anything goes wrong the dealer has to send a claim to subaru uk, who then make a claim to the selling country. My alternator went on my 02 scoob last month, thinking never mind its under warrenty it will be ok. I had to get it to goldens as they wouldnt pick it up and then when they found the fault i had to pay for it first (£455+ vat). They say that sometimes foriegn countries dont always pay hence you pay first. I have just got my money back this week so its taken about 3 weeks in all.

why bother with IM dealers for servicing anyway? - they are over proced and usually not very good - far better to use an independent specialist .
Note that all Euro cars carry a MANUFACTURER*'s warranty now - and there is absolutely no issue (under european law) with using ANY vat registered servicing garage as long as parts of equivalent quality or original subaru parts ( I would recommend the latter) are used.

So you can buy a european import and have the warranty honoured in the UK and take your pick of the many excellent independent subaru specialists out there

makes the case for an IM imported and serviced car a little bit difficult to justify in comparison!

* previously the year 2 and year 3 warranty was provided by IM as well as the bodywork warranty - now only the bodywork warranty is provided by IM IIRC.

 

KT greens are a good dealer.. just a shame about imports..

The only garage I am aware of that know Subaru's apart from Dealerships is Midgeley Motor Cars (mainly 4x4's but do Subaru's as well, the mechanic has a Scoob)in Skipton, North Yorkshire. After that it's a case of looking at Lancashire and Jap Innovations in Oldham and Town End Garage in Carnforth spring to mind.

Biggest county in the country and we have no Scoob specialist we can go to!

Cripes anyone can work on a Scoob - they are soooooo simple to service

I take mine down to the local garage for a Silkolene oil change and filter - about all it needs normally and costs me a colossal £55 all in! - yep I know - a bit pricey

Spark plug changes are also fairly straightforward, as are gearbox/diff oil/coolant

Cant see what else there is to check other than basic suspension review..............

 

If you want a little more comfort just take it along to the likes of Well Lane Turbo in Batley (or Batley High Performance) nr Dewsbury

There are tonnes of specialists out there

That's fine doing that but come the time when it comes to sell it no one will want to buy it as the garage is not seen as 'reputable'. It will be your word against the buyers.

You also get the problem of these garages not normally getting such cars and taking them for a 'roadtest'. On that last note I would much prefer to take it to a specialist even if it takes a 100 to 200 mile round trip.

I understand where you're coming from

From my perspective I would never buy a car with a main dealer service history because I would know that it had not been done correctly! - some require some dont - as long as it has history should be the main thing!

I always watch what they are doing re the Service - if its a long job I take it to more specialised people and always check the speedo/fuel beforehand..

 

Well Lane mainly sell sports cars spen,i hardly think there going to get a kick out of a scooby when they sell cars like E55 AMG Porsche 996 Turbo and so on.

 

Yes they laugh at my rather slow 400bhp (350lbs) scoob!!

I'll show em... next time..........

P.S. S600HBY - I know the wheels on a Scooby are gold, but I didn't know about the 24carat diamond encrusted alternators. £455+vat for something with 2 bearings, 3 bushes and a coil. They're 'avin a larf mate! I guess those prices are something I'll have to get used to.

A good bet is Sub City based near Doncaster.A small outfit but they will service any model of Scoob as well as imports.
