Default Fecking credit scores!

Can't believe this. Went in to my bank to raise a mortgage, when they did the credit score I'm frickin rejected due to previous bad credit rating. Never missed a payment on anything in my life, been with my bank for over twenty years, preferred client with a private banker blah blah blah

Mortgage adviser can't tell me anymore than that and tells me to check my credit scores and she will appeal.

I check with Experian and Equifax. Both return high scores so I ring Experian and they say there was a default of £120 last year. The person who defaulted has my name but a different date of birth. So why is it on my report??

There are also a load of linked addresses in the Midlands that I have no association with.

However it turns out my bank didn't use Experian they used Equifax and so I phone them up. They say they can't see anything wrong with my report. When I look at the detailed report I have a 'financial associate' that I have never heard of!

I have no idea wtf is going on

I know how you feel although I've never had a rating problem.
Earlier this year I decided to find out what my credit report said about me and I'm glad I did. I turns out my report stated I owed a finance company a deferred sum of £3500, total rubbish as the only finance I have is my mortgage and my car loan, nothing else.
Anyway, it took nearly three months and many phone calls and emails to get it removed.

Thanks Norman, I'll try that site later.

Nik, I haven't got three months to correct the mistakes, I need to raise the money quite quickly.

No disrespect meant, but I'll be f**ked if I am going to put my card details including the CVV number into some relatively random website.... they do not need the CVV number to do an ID check!

My thoughts exactly, so I read the reviews and they weren't good. They seem to deliberately manufacture a lower credit score but won't tell you why unless you pay. I reckon this company is a scam.

Equifax have been quite efficient, they've removed the unknown 'financial associate' within 24 hrs of my request.

Now I just need them to remove the unknown associated address and I should be fine

Noddle are a legit site, its used to access the third credit reference agency data for free (call credit). You have to supply your credit card details as proof that you are who you say you are. They then let you have access if the details you provide match those held on your credit file.

I've been using noddle to keep track of my credit files for more than 6 months, works perfectly and does not cost a single penny.

How about..."Ding slightly surprised and worried that his credit score has been negatively affected by associations which he knows nothing about" shocker?

Or would that not suit you?

It's just much easier with my bank. They have all my accounts ie business, personal etc and so I don't need to provide statements or wage slips. They've always given me a very good service and I know the mortgage adviser there quite well.

It looks like everything is sorted now anyway.

I didn't pay a penny to them and mine is 5/5 on their site, so that's blown that theory

Frankly I'm quite disturbed about the amount of my personal financial information that seems to be readily available to all and sundry on these systems. It's even worse when they **** it up and get it wrong.

Maybe I'm being very old fashioned about all of this but the whole system makes me feel somewhat violated.

Registered with that site a couple of months ago, what struck me as odd was they asked me to confirm if I had links with 5 addresses which I recognised as being local, but I had no association with any of them? What is that all about? Is that where previous occupants of my current address are likely to have lived or live?

The fact remains that you do not need a CVV number for a credit/debit card based ID check. I work with card systems all the time and the ONLY time you need to collect a CVV number is when taking a payment!

Your point being?

I registered for the free credit score and I did enter my CVV as required, no payment has been taken and given that the identity check has now been completed surely the 'transaction' is now complete and the CVV is now 'spent' and can't be used again - just the same as any other transaction?

I did also untick the boxes for sharing my info with others, as well as the one for receiving emails, offers, etc.

My credit score was 3/5?

Can't say it bothers me, I only have a credit card for collecting avois points and pay off all purchases before incurring any charges, and my only loan is my mortgage which is now less than 30% of the property value, I was just intrigued as over the last 10 years or so I've tried very hard to avoid credit of any type.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I was curious too..

In the last ten years i have had no kind of credit or finance at all.... I dont even have a credit card and my mortgage has been paid off.... I also have no debt, and never have.

But we are thinking of moving and a mortgage would be needed so i wondering what my status would be like ?
