Default BBC - Shock and dismay over £25m worth of severance payouts

Lord Patten: 'Shock and dismay' over BBC payments

So the BBC have paid a lot more than contractually required for many already large severance payouts... totalling £25m

Easy when it's the taxpayers money I guess!!!!

BTW I realise that things like this are nowhere near as important as debating what the royal sprog will be named, but thought I'd give it a go anyway

The BBC should be made to pay it all back to the licenceholders!

What's the reasoning behind paying larger-than-contractually-required payoffs? Genuinely interested in why they do this.

It's 'the unique way in which the BBC is funded'.

because they thought they could get away with it

mutual backslapping (resulting in over inflated payoffs) is not just confined to the BBC though

I watched some of the commitee hearing yesterday and the BBC would not answer that question directly!

They could probably have kept the F1 on the beeb for a bit longer with that sort of lolly.

A somewhat obvious post for this thread...

Still well funny, though.
