I love fish more than meat, I can't say that this news wasn't expected...

I thought they'd been substituting "white fish" in products labelled as cod for some time due to the fact that cod is now quite scarce and expensive.
I now wonder what I do get when I buy a cod and chips from the chippy? Tastes good anyhow

Farmed pollock usually.
Nothing wrong with pollock but it really wants to be line caught.
I'd worry about the stuff coming from China as they don't seem to worry about pollution levels and pour some pretty nasty stuff into the rivers, we'll all be glowing in the dark before too long.

That BBC article had a rather ambiguous statement.
"If you are going to pay for a wild seafood product, and you want to choose that seafood carefully for your health or for conservation concerns".
How can you conserve a fish by eating it!!!
Anyway, its been going on for years. For example if you by cheap "Scampi" its more likely to be Monkfish tail.

We live on an island surrounded by water and fish (there is no shortage of Cod or any other type of fish in the North Sea trust me) why the **** are we even importing fish when we have our own locally caught stuff on our door step, Last week in Morrisons I had a quick look at some of the places we were importing from and was shocked to see prawns imported from Thailand? Seriously WTF?

You just can't trust those traders can you!
Down here we get our fish still identifiable by the skin and the heads etc. and our traders here are also completely honest.
We eat fish in preference to meat every time too.

However, when you eat inferior tasting fish (which pollock is compared to a decent cod) because the packet says cod or the guy at the chippy says it's cod then it certainly isn't 'nothing wrong'. It's fraud, plain and simple, more often than not lining the pockets of the wholesaler or chippy owner.
Big fine and /or prison sentence please.
I hate being cheated.

Cant see what the fuss is about really,
For all the people who have eaten a shergar steak or pie, there still here,
There lives havnt ended on the spot, and they probably thougt it was quite tasty.
I'm surprised, no one has started pressing the gov to get horse on the menu, given were now quite fond.
