Default Has SN ever changed your opinion?

Recent threads have got me thinking, has anyone on here gone onto a thread with one point of view, and emerged from it with another viewpoint?

It seems most of the time people are just expressing their viewpoint like a tennis match. Neither side is ever persuaded of the other's, and other than letting people vent the whole conversation may as well have not happened for the good it does.

The same seems to be true on Question Time-like TV shows where people are just waiting for their turn to speak rather than actually listening to and considering points they had not thought about before.

I can't recall a time where this has happened on SN either from the threads I have read.

Anyone? (For the record, I have not )

It's funny you should post this as I was thinking exactly the same thing over the weekend.

I don't think my opinion has ever been changed by anything I have read on a board like this, but most of you won't be surprised by that.

I do read what other people write, I do consider it.... but it has never changed my view... not that I can recall anyway.

Yes I always change my opinion as soon as I read another's honest

In all seriousness tho I can't say I have changed opinion on something, but some people do make some good valid points which make for an interesting debate shall we say and I do take them on board, but if you hold a firm belief on something then its gonna take a whole lot more than a few posts on the tintaweb to change someone's way of thinking

I used to think that most people were well rounded, educated and tolerant individuals.

Scooby net has changed my opinion on that.

Yes, but only in the face of well argued, logical justification of a particular view point. However, 99.9% of posters are incapable of outlining the reasons behind their view point so it's quite rare.

Yeh right! Even when every expert on the planet tells you you're wrong, you think everyone else is brainwashed

Yes - originally I thought anyone owning a Subaru would be well informed, appreciate the finer things in life and above the average car owner. Thanks to SN I've learnt that even here there are some serious retards who like to pollute everyone's posts with their unintelligent comments and childlike arguments based upon uniformed points of view....

.....and I thought Sax-P was bad

Because those experts are imparting information to the general population you idiot. Wow, you really are utterly incapable of cognitive reasoning? Shame. Might I suggest an IQ test to see how you rank; perhaps you can get help. There was a thread recently...

I think you're suffering delusions of grandeur my friend. However, if you are a professional driver of some sort and I don't mean taxi, then fair play but I suspect not and you would be considered a member of the general motoring population

Anyway, back on topic...

Yes, if an argument is reasonable, proven and comes from someone with more experience, technical knowledge I'm more than happy to change my opinion.

That's how we learn or don't in some cases.

It's got nothing to do with being a professional driver. It's simply a case of knowing how to drive appropriately for the conditions and how to deal with a wiggle if the back gets a little loose.

NEWS FLASH: if you lose the back end with good tread on the rear then you were driving too fast for the conditions. End of. It's not about the fact you had 8mm up front and 6mm on the rear. It's because you drove too fast!

I try to keep an open mind and do admit that my opinions have been changed by what has been stated on SN in the past.

Even the thought of the possibility of fuel surge made me think twice!

I don't think much directly has changed my opinion but I to like to see which people actually have logic behind their opinions rather than those who have a 'feeling' rather than opinion then search for justification for how they feel about a subject.
Martin20005 did change my opinion once but it was a long time ago and I forget what the subject was.

I've learned a lot and changed my opinion on topics about which I'm not well informed. In debate I will only assert a strong position if I've thought about it deeply and weighed up the available evidence exhaustively, so it would take overwhelming evidence to change that position. I'm open to that possibility and actually relish it, but I haven't experienced it for 15 years on this forum or in real life.

Has SN ever changed your opinion?
Indeed.

SN has changed my opinion. I knew that race, age, gender, religion, disability, socio-economic and sexuality discrimination existed/exist/will still exist in the real world, but not to the extent that I see on SN. Some hard core discriminatory posts on SN over the years have changed my opinion. Now I know that there's a hell of a lot of discrimination than I previously believed; before joining Scoobynet.
