Xmas working!
Anyone else having to work over the Xmas break?
Just been told my only day off is Xmas day itself, and Boxing Day will be normal working day

I understand that there's a lot of trades that are required to work at this time of year Telboy,
But I'm a lowly Hgv driver, what the hell needs delivering on Boxing Day that can't wait another 24 hours?
I only carry breakfast cereal!

I'm also a HGV driver, I work nights and deliver national newspapers, Christmas Day is the only day there's no newspapers, so Christmas Eve is our only night off
Although this year I have managed to book the full week off

I'm just annoyed as only been told today, not even told mrs ex Vauxhall yet, and I know she's gonna go nuts.
I'm a tramper too, so Boxing Day is first shift, won't get home till 5 days later, if I'm lucky
Oh and lol at the Yorkie, they ARE Nestlé!

Cheers mate. Yea its an important and very time critical job. I know you hgv boys are time pushed but when you get told youve got less then 3 hours to go from sheffields kids hospital to great ormand street in london its a lot of pressure racing down the M1 at speeds in excess of 100mph
My family have gone mad as i wont even get to see them pretty much now.

I've yet to find the right moment to tell the wife yet, she's gonna go spare!

not a total disaster tbh, i start at 7am which means i leave at 5.30am for a dayshift. but just get kids up at 5am, half hour opening presents, then off to work for a relaxed day of eating xmas dinner , whilst my mrs has to drag the kids around all the family.
firefighter i am
i pay it back being the taxi at new year when mrs gets a drink with her family - good by me.

total no brainer to work over the xmass break (unless you are abroad skiing etc)
short days, fvck all to do except re-org your desk and delete a load of sh1te emails, easy journey in, little traffic, wear what you like
obviously you have the bank holidays xmass day etc off
put the days in the bank -- and take them off in June - 18 hours of sunlight and great weather - (usually)
and if you can "work" from home, double bubble

no bank hols or xmas days off for me, part of my work pattern, must wear uniform and be "ready to roll" to enable my work to stay open. by law we need a minimum manning level to keep things legally operational

Thankfully, I've been able to book holiday in, so I will finish work whatever time they decide to close on Christmas Eve and I'll not be back until the end of the following week. I'm glad I've managed to get it, as I work in a shop and perhaps surprisingly to some, we tend to be quite quiet during that week, so the time drags.
