Welfare to Work - fantastic spin
One of the government's key policies was the Welfare to Work scheme aimed at getting the long term unemployed back to work. They set a target of 5.5% (people from that group with a job for more than 6 months) and today the figures were released showing the figure is actually 3.5%.
However they say this isn't a failure as they made the target when economic growth was predicted to be 2.5% so it's a good result seeing as economic growth has been a lot less than that.
They completely failed to mention they were the ones predicting the economic growth at 2.5% LOL!
Spin at its best .... Blair taught them well
The biggest laugh is that if they had done nothing the figure was expected to be 5%.... That said it does take time for new schemes to become established I guess!

The cynic in me would suggest that for many long term unemployed/welfare dependant, the last thing they want is sustainable employment. Six months of getting up on time would be a struggle for many people in this group, let alone doing a job all day thereafter.

Look at the scum we see paraded on Jeremy Kyle/Road Wars/999 on channel 4 etc.
If you were running a business would you employ them?
Until the government start putting a really effective cap on benefits based on the lowest paid workers in the country after tax and not the £35k average or whatever it is the career benefit claimants have no reason to make themselves employable.
Prisons and sentences would also have to be turned into a proper deterrent so the same scum do not then go out and increase their criminal activity to cover the cut in their benefits.
