No, but then again, I didn't need to to agree with your statement.

Anybody playing today would eventually pick up a strange accent.

Anyone who's spent time in a foreign country will know how difficult it is to avoid sounding like the natives. Yes he might sound like a "****" but do you really think he intended to pretend he is French? No. It's something the brain just does. Travel a bit and find out for yourself.

I work with a guy that puts the accent on to whatever country he's calling, it is funny and we do rip him.

Joey's was way better than Steve MCclaren

He does have a point - would anyone in that room have understood a word he said if he spoke "normally" ?

Absolutely, and you don't need to travel abroad for it to happen.
Along similar lines; I speak Scouse when talking to my parents/ family or when visiting Liverpool, but the rest of the time I have a local-ish accent (Lincs). People are amazed if they haven't heard me in action before but it's totally not a conscious decision and I do it without thinking twice.
A Scottish friend of mine does it too, she sounds like something off Rab C Nesbitt if she's with her mum, the rest of the time it's more like Coronation Street.

Joey Barton is a complete **** in any language.

Id also like to add that I think Barton is a **** but I have a general feeling he did this on purpose. Just giving the media something to latch on to, kind on hinted at it in the interview too. The guy does have a point and is probably laughing at us lot for talking about it.

If you watch it without any sound he looks like he is actually talking french - lots of shrugs and nods.

So his Tweet apologising for making himself look a tool was also part of the elaborate sting?

I follow Barton and Ive not seen that, in fact Ive just looked at his previous tweets from the last few days and he hasnt apologised for looking like a tool. Just one that says its difficult to do a press conference in scouse to a room full of French Journalists, the alternative is to speak like an Allo Allo character. He has actually been very quiet on twitter these last 2 days.

Strange, and there's me thinking he actually posted "sorry for making myself look like a tool"

Dave, Google "paraphrasing", new word for you perhaps

Haha, I don't think that's a direct translation of words now is it for paraphrasing. Thats you paraphrasing what hes said and adding in that hes a tool
