Default Any 3D Tv Gurus on here?

Hi guys,

Bought a new TV today and have just realised that the damn cables are all in teh wall, now I "think" they are 1.3b, but really cant be sure, is there any way to tell from teh connectors themselves? I am assuming not?

Also, are there any good 3D movies available for download, demo stuff, like they show in teh Shops so I can test if its working or not?

Damn Bluray players not 3D compatible either, so going to have to replace that too FFS. Damn AV... it will bankrupt me.

Finally, ref the 3D "compatability" of interfacing equipment, how can I tell if my AV system is going to pass through the 3D sigbnal? what is the deciding factor here? The bandwidth of the port, or does it need some form of processing system?

just buy the high speed 1.4a cables and be done with it. I have about 60 of the 3d bluerays although I have hardly watched any. I can tell you 3d films arn't all that as they only have limited 3d parts.

If youwant to see some good 3d in a blueray you will mainly have to stick with a cgi film. Avatar has good 3d so has Yogi Bear and also The Smurfs. It really is that bad if you want to see good 3d.

Other films will have ok 3d but those will impress you, I would prefer to watch a good 1080p film than suffer sitting with my glasses on watching a 3d film that only has say 8 minutes of 3d footage.

I use an Ac ryan and it plays all my films great

You must be on benefits if 3d will bankrupt you lol

3d blu rays players are 60 quid upwards and TV's are 400 quid upwards

3d is 1.4 so your amp would need to pass 1.4 I guess (AFAIK it is a tag on the digital stream that says it is 3d and what type ie SBS etc)

I have the Onkyo 607 wich isnt 1.4 but my blu ray isnt 3d either

There are plenty of torrents out there with the demo's the shops use

Try the LG one with the Potato Cod it is truly stunning

Not easy though, as I say, they are concreted into the wall. LOL

Have been told there isnt much decent 3D content, but my little girl will love what there is.

I didn't do this either on my recent barn conversion and just had 3 lots of coax and 1 x Cat 6 in (and was upset when I then connected and thought one cable was dodgy, but it was a dodgy connector), but some suggest conduits in the walls rather than putting in cables forever that will become outdated. I wondered that about your dyno cell project where you'd doubled up for redundancy, but there you had removable conduit panels to be able to rewire? Not so practical in a house, but conduit with pull strings could be?

Yeah, it is in conduit, and with some effort could probably be removed, but it will be a bloody ballache and I am not sure am willing to risk cracking the plaster etc just to change an HDMI cable. Fingers crossed its a 1.3a onwards.

If there is room in the conduit could you not run a couple of cat5e or cat6 (cat5e is much thinner) cable and the use hdmi convertors ?

If it is digital though and just a bunch of 0's and 1's not quite sure why the cable matters too much unless wired differently, in which case could you not just change the ends

Funny you should link to that page, been on there ages and learnt a LOT.
There is no such thing as a 1.3 or 1.4 cable. It's all manufacturers smoke and mirrors!

I had this early this year,

unless your HDMI cabke is as old as the hills, then you should be fine.

I used the Panny hdmi cable from 4 years ago when i replaced my 2d with 3d, and it was fine, i bought cheap tecknica stuff from Tesco for the tv upstairs, and thats fine also ( as in does 3D with ease

Yes, actually, I have two, but they just aren't a patch on a decent standalone player when viewed on a good panel. Not sure how their codecs are doing nowadays as they didn't used to be able to output Dolby True HD either, although that might have changed now. Not turned mine on in over 2 years.

Thanks, that backs up what I have learnt tonight in as such as your cable is either high speed spec, or its not, all this 1.3, a, b and 1.4 cable talk is absolute bollox surprisingly.

It'll do until you buy a new 3d player though.

All PS3's output Dolby True HD,its just the old ones decode it internally and send it to your amp via HDMI as LPCM & you have to change your PS3 to output "LPCM" via HDMI which meant that it wouldn't show up on the amps display panel or light up the True HD light.

The new shape PS3's output Dolby True HD as a bitstream so now your amp can decode it & it will show up on the amp's dislpay panel & light up the True HD light.

Interesting info, thank you.
By the new shape do you mean the very latest? Or the thin one from a few years ago? I have the original fat one, and the thinner one, but not the latest even thinner one.

with floor standers like that I'm surprised you went with such a small centre speaker (there is no replacement for displacement!)

The surround is all handles by the 5 KEF's and the active KEF sub. They sound MUCH bigger than those little 2 ways size suggest.

The Monitor Audio RX8's handle my 2 channel sound system only via my Cyrus & Streaming system.

I can VERY happily confirm that my 1.3 cables bought in 2008 and installed in the wall process 3D just fine.

My Pioneer Av amp however, does not.

I am researching that as we type mate. All but my Apple TV can be connected to the AV amp optically so that may be a good option. Just need to check that optical carries true hd ok as something tells me it doesn't have the bandwidth.

9.2 eh - I can just imagine the wife face if I added another 4 speakers.
I've got 7.1 amp, but only run 5.1 setup.
Are you going for the full 9.2 install?

Hi,
At the moment I run 5.1, but I am adding 2x front highs to do a 7.1 in Dolby Pro Logic IIz format, hopefully tonight if the postman delivers my 2 extra KEF's as promised.

Current layout:

I shall also be changing those vertical blinds tonight as they let far too much light in and cause 3D images to flicker as the Panny I use has active shutters.

I couldn't easily sit much too far away if I tried. LOL

You are aware that if you sit closer than the recommended minimum distance that the image actually looks far worse aren't you?
