Thumbs up Paralympics

It's making more sense than the other one so far, although that women in the sky seems to be getting an easy ride

So tony blair is brokering a deal for BP to suck oil out of lake Malawi and mean while their athletes can't afford the airfare to compete.

My missus has been arguing with me as she doesn't believe paraolympics means runs parallel as in two weeks later.

I have been watching the opening ceremony and it made me feel sad rather than happy when I saw some of the competitors on camera.

In the word Paralympics, para stands for parallel, meaning equal to, not paraplegic as thought by many people. (Stolen from CBBC Newsround)

We enjoyed the opening ceremony apart from some of the singing and that awful statue that suddenly appeared.

Genuine question. Just watching some of the swimming S7 which I assume relates to conditions that can compete. But you have swimmers with both hands and feet present but others who have one missing. Surely that's a bit unfair on the latter?

Great commentary - ...'and every single person is on their feet in the stadium..' as Hannah Cockroft receives her gold medal.

I know I am going out on a limb here - no pun intended

But I find the whole thing a bit mawkish, I accept it is my problem, I still find their attitude drive a spirit inspirational -- but difficult to watch at the same time

It' s a body image thing I think

I share that view. Let me say all the right things first. Yes I absolutely admire the competitor's dedication and fighting spirit and wish them all the luck in the world and have nothing against the competition as such.

But I get no thrill whatsoever watching the games themselves. I keep thinking that most of the competitors wouldn't come close to making the GB team if they were able bodied.

Best of luck to them all.

I KNOW this is so wrong, and I have the utmost respect and admiration for every single athlete in the Paralympics (especially the swimmers with no arms - awesome), but I have this niggly issue circulating at the back of my mind.

It's been bugging me since I started watching these games, but I've finally found it....

(please don't lambast me - I'm not laughing at anyone - it's just my British humour)

I agree with most of the above and like others I have massive admiration for those competing especially those who have overcome huge difficulties in life to get where they are now.

However like zip being a big Monty Python fan I really wish some of their sketches had not been done as they come to mind at the most inappropriate times.

Back to the serious side of it I actually find the athletes in the Paralympics more talented than those in the Olympics. Training to be that good at anything is difficult enough but to do it with a disability makes it all the more of an achievement. The girl who won the backstroke with no arms was just incredible.

Certainly enjoying watching the games. I have the greatest respect for those who are able to produce such admirable performances in spite of their disabilities.

Myself and my eldesdest daughter will be at the paralympics on Saturday. We're really looking forward to it. There's a website you can use which alerts you to when tickets are available. It really helped getting them.

And those clips above were funny :-)

I'd could be more enjoyable if the coverage was better. Ch4 are not doing a great job.

Well, he could have used bigger blades too.

...if you can't beat 'em!

I agree with Oscar that the blades should only be the length to make the athlete their predicted height if they had legs and not be allowed to make themselves 4" higher.
