In the last two weeks I have searched Amazon for two products I needed and given up, as the product description plainly says they are 'genuine' or 'oem' or 'original equipment' - but the reviews and even the picture sometimes shows that plainly this is NOT the case, they are copies/counterfeit.

I needed a Genuine battery for a Nokia E5 phone, gave up as I can't trust any of the one's I found, most say 'Nokia' as the manufacturer, but plainly are not.

Yesterday I needed a genuine Apple charger & lead for an iPad2, same problem again...

How do these sellers get away with this? - when even the company manufacturer field on the site says 'Apple', or 'Nokia' when it is not?

I always thought Amazon was 'better' than this, had a certain cachet of quality... Not my experience lately....

Amazon Amazon

Its not even that I want to get it cheap - I don't care if its full price - I want a GENUINE item, at the price it costs.. I just WANT one easily. /RANT OFF

I guess this is the market place and not Amazon themselves? I doubt Amazon would be knowingly selling conterfeit goods. The market place however is fairly unregulated as far as I can work out and it's up to you to check the feedback of whoever you're buying from much like eBay. I also suspect that it's in their terms and conditions somewhere that if a market place seller incorrectly describes goods then it's their problem if Nokia, Apple etc. decide to go after them

Why don't you look elsewhere if you can't find what you are after on Amazon

Had same issue myself with a limited edition boxset, Amazon declared it was nothing to do with them as it was a reseller and yet the reseller is still trading on there 12 months later..... I guess that tells you all you need to know abut hiw much Amazon care about their customers! Sad as they haven't always been like that!

As above, I wouldn't bother with anything from the 'market place' as it's about as likely you'll get what you want than if you were buying it off ebay.

Buyer beware - I often find stuff on the marketplace thats the cheapest place to get it or the only place to get it - and every time its been exactly what I wanted and as described.......

I tried - the Apple store website is currently down for a revamp. I'm MILES away from a physical store.

I can't find a charger on Amazon that is sold by amazon.

Use Amazon marketplace all the time and never had a problem. Always genuine stuff arrives.

I only use re-sellers that have loads of positive feedback and have been trading for over a year etc.

But you are right in that you are not buying from Amazon as such and they always pass the buck to the re-seller if there are any problems.

Amazon Marketplace has form (along with eBay) for people flogging fake Sandisk memory cards. Unless it's something dead simple (like a 2nd hand book), I won't buy from Marketplace sellers, only Amazon directly.
