Default How do people buy car tyres today.

Normally i ring round, go to the cheapest place (or get them to price match) and get them fitted. Looking on the web there are some places that sell tyres at a good discount. Per tyre.......

Kwick Fit Pirelli p Zero 225/45/17 £148 all in.
Lovetyres.com £89 delivered. Obviously fitting is extra.

Does anyone do this.
Is it worth the (slight) hassle.
Would a garage take as much care fitting them, as if you bought them there. (my alloys are 100% perfect atm)

Audi A3.

I order online and have them fitted at my place. Saves sitting bored in a waiting room and I can get on with something useful while they are fitted.

Your place, as in your garage?

What if someone came in with a set of tyres for you to fit?

I own a tyre company and often have this question bought up . I would sugest that you go to an indipendant tyre company as they will have more interest in looking after you and more upto date machinery than a garage wich does tyres as well as lots of other things . tyre prices are very simeler across the board.avoid going to likes of ats , quick fit etc as the staff are all comisioned based and will want to hurry you out the door not taking much care of youre wheels .

Hmmmm - my missus car need two new tyres a couple of months ago - we live in a small market town.... there is a Halfauds Tyre/Service centre, that used to be a Nationwide Autocentre, but it appears they were bought out about 18months ago by halfords.
We also have an independant tyre centre.

Phoned up for 2 Michelin Energy 205/15" - not the most glamorous tyres in the world.
(but apparently quite an expensive tyre, they both told me that)

halfrauds £148 each
Independant £76 each

**** me - HALF the price!! - how do these people sleep at night??

Eventually went for 2 Kumho's at £100 fitted - at the independant - it only goes to school and back! a round trip of about 3 miles.

us independent tyre companys get better prices than the big stores because we can shop around for better supliers where as ats is owned and tied to michelin quick fit ,halfords and two others are all one company something to do with continental . and we dont have to pay stupid wages to men in suits who sit at the top shouting orders .

just bought 2 x 235/45/17 94Y P Zero Rosso's fitted from black circles for £204.00 the pr. the nearest fitter is a under a mile from where i live, ordered the tyres and they where ready the next day. No brainer for me, tyres delivered to the fitters, i had an email to say they where there at the fitters and to book a time to fit, called up and went round there 10 min's later - job done.

I will be doing this in future!

used to use and recommend a local indie i had dealt with for 10 years but their prices went up and their service went down to the point someone i recommended came back to me saying how they had been treated and felt ripped off, i then had similar experience with them -= end of relationship. Shame really.

Always used a independent , we did use one before, we got a flat and the locking wheel nut wouldn't come off because they gunned them On that tight!

So we found a reliable new tyre fitter

Been using BlackCircles for quite a while now, as mentioned they deliver the tyres to a local independent, you turn up there a day or two after ordering, tyres are fitted, job done.

I asked the fitters we use if we were starving them of their own business by using BlackCircles and would I get a better deal by going direct to them but he said they make just as much from BlackCircles as they would selling independently and we as a customer get a nice website to go to and pick what tyres we would like for our cars. Everyone wins by the sound of it

Recently bought two for the Scoob: local place wanted £106 per corner.
Camskill was £75 per corner, delivered.

I got the local place to match the Camskill price, putting £5 fitting and £2 disposal on top of each tyre, plus £5 goodwill on the pair.
If anything goes wrong with the tyres, I take them back locally.

Worth it, IMHO.

I buy mine online and get them fitted for cash at the local tyre depot. Mucho savings.

The local kwik fit always tries to rip people off for tyres by selling them 4 new ones even when they have 6-7 ml of tread left. My pal gets all those tyres and if I want any he supplies and fits them for me for £20 for every thing from a Land-rover tyre to a Goodyear eagle F1.

I've always found Kwikfit prices a joke, way higher than anywhere else.
Plus after watching the watchdog programme exposing their rip off culture I wouldn't trust them with my bike let alone my car.

I use the mobile fitters Event Tyres. Prices are comparable to Black Circles et al and saves me the hassle to going to fitters. Just book them to come round to my house on a Saturday, job done plus you get a discount if you buy 4 tyres which is what I normally do.

We have a local firm which specialises and fits them at a significantly reduced price. Excellent service from them. Maybe you have a similar firm near you somewhere.
