Ferry prices to the Isle Of Man for the TT races.
I was planning to go the TT races this year but i couldn't get a ferry, i tried booking just after last years race but within the space of no time at all the ferries were booked up.
I tried again this year, similar happened, i could have got across 3 days before the start of the race week which would have been ok but i couldn't get a ferry back till 4 days after the racing had finished.
What suprised me is the cost of the ferry, £448 for a car with 2 people, thats £224 each.
You always expect them to hike the ferry prices for a major event like this as its supply and demand but thats bordering on robbery

A lot of people book the next year's ferry for the TT, while they're at the present one. Our car hire for the two weeks this year was just under £700!! For a Nissan Micra!! About £300 up on last year!

That's crazy, we went about a month ago for a week and think the SeaCat from Liverpool was around £250 - that was on the 7 day return offer they have.
Suppose you have to consider how many bikes they could fit in the place of your car? Still a big price hike though!
Have you considered flying and hiring a car? My mate sent his bike over in the back of his mate van(sidecar team) and flew over.
Mind you, the Isle of Man was made for Impreza's do it would be a shame not to take it!

Just saw the above post with regards to car hire, you considered swimming
One of the managers where I work is into sailing so he sails his boat across and moores up over there for the TT, he reckons the fees for mooring are fairly cheap. Just need to get a boat

This was our 18th TT, and Mr OS is now threatening to go back to doing the ferry thing. I'm threatening to revolt and not go at all, if he does. Luton airport is only 20 minutes from us, so we don't lose a day each end of the holiday, travelling. The car/ferry was always such a drag. All that hanging about, especially if they couldn't sail due to the weather.

my dad books almost twelve months before hand for the Manx GP at the end of August.
Have you tried to see if they have ferrys for then?

I'm still laughing at it being £448 for a car to go from Liverpool to the Isle Of Man on a ferry.
Does anyone know how much it is to go on the same ferry at any other time of the year ?

Check out this thread, some of the prices are comical that people have been quoted.

Trying to get a quote from the IoM Steam Packet Co. for 21st June one week return,2 adults, 1 car, return 28th June.
Soooooooooo slow! Think their computer is steam powered as well.
Or, they have made so much money from the TT that they have all jumped on the ferry & set sail for the Caribbean.

The website is very slow - it crashed on my booking, checked my email - no booking confirmation so I went through the rigmarole again. Checked my CC statement later that week and it had charged me twice, but they had refunded me on the same date - not all bad.

Get ferry to Ireland then back to IOM = much cheaper, if a hassle. £106 this year, return for me and wife on our bikes. Plan on spending 24 hours travelling each way though.
