Humax HD Fox T2 problem, help please?
Anybody here good on AV stuff please?
Bought a Humax HD Fox T2 the other day for my HD-ready telly, which is currently connected to the house aerial (in the roof). The picture isn't great, but it's ok. I was hoping the Humax would help improve the picture, and of course give me the free HD channels.
However, i'm getting a "no signal or signal too weak" error message on the telly every time i try to install it. I get the "Humax" logo but then the error message. I am as sure as i can be that i'm connecting it properly - aerial into the Humax, and HDMI into the telly.
My question is, if i can get a picture using the terrestrial cable, shouldn't it be a strong enough signal for the Humax to work with? Or do i need a different type of cable from a standard coaxial? Or a signal booster? Nothing i've done so far has made any difference.
Thanks in advance for any advice, it's doing my head in!!

Is there a pass through (coax) so you can connect the TV without the signal being affected by the Humax?
Have you tried a coax link from the Humax to TV for SD picture?
Can you see the Humax menu via the menu button on the remote, that is internally generated and independent of aerial / signal strength?

Yes, before i started the telly was connected direct to the aerial with a coax.
I haven't tried putting the Humax in the middle of that connection no, but that's what i was thinking of doing tonight just to prove it *can* produce a SD picture with coax all the way.
The Humax menu button does seem to work, yes.

I do this for a living so might be able to help.
When you say the picture is bad on the tv are you referring to analogue or digital?
On the humax box are you getting no signal on all channels? I'm surprised the humax is having problems as it's normally a good box for working with weak signals.
Also what transmitter are you on? If what region if you don't know?

Hi Ant.
The picture on the TV is "average" in either analogue or digital. I keep it on digital though, as then i can access all the built-in Freeview channels. When i bought the telly i was expecting a great picture, but it's nothing special. It doesn't break up or anything though. It's watchable.
With the Humax it's just giving me the error message in the middle of the screen. In the instruction manual it says i should see a start-up wizard but nope, nothing like that. But i've not really tried changing channels with the Humax remote. Do i need to do that?
I think i'm Crystal Palace. It's a good reception area, generally. Essex innit.

Can't see it being a signal issue in that area. Delete all channels on the box 1st then do a rescan. You can delete all channels from the menu under edit channels ,select all, delete.
Then once it's rescanned try chaining channels to see If it's on all channels and not just certain MUX's ( blocks of channels)

It honestly will be. You could upload a pic of what it looks like connected up at back so I can check if it's connected right?
Another thing you have a mast head amplifier fitted?
If the tv is giving a picture and no breakup then something will not be right with the box

Cool, thank you. I'll wing over a pic if i can't get anything. I was really disappointed that it didn't just plug in and go, i very rarely have problems with stuff like this.
I do have a mast head amplifier, yes. But i can't remember whether the spur to this telly goes through it, i think it does. I'd have to check that.
