Rebekah Brooks comes across as manipulative and multiplicitous. You can see the contempt in her eyes for the committee but she has erected a front of over-earnestness and fake sincerity to cover.

I just don't believe her about what she says about her knowledge of paying police officers. Whilst I find it credible she didn't specifically authorise it, I don't believe her comments in 2003 were just 'in general' based on 'rumor' etc.

Whole thing was a total joke

Big Daddy - I'm old, dotty and forgettful, but I knew nothing, wasn't told a thing, so I'm in the clear. Now can I have bskyb as I'm not the wretch the public thought I was.

Little Big M: I'm ready to take over.

The 'Select Committee' ***** footed, letting BD get away evasive answers.

'bekka's in there now breezing it

I should imagine that was the idea.

She's being blatantly dishonest. Lawyer-speak.

Top notch security there, just as well the assailant didn't have a gun or a knife.

Must be difficult for the Murdochs not to be able to throw some money at the problem and make it go away.

Thats what I thought. I worked there a few years ago and we were not checked at all and we went in with two vans and a 17ton truck. We were told that if anyone asked we were to say we had been searched and inducted. What a joke.

Indeed, replace murdoch and ginger for muslim or Asian and the same people would condemn you to the depths of hell. Trout for example seems quick to jump on the race bandwagon, yet seems all to quick to shoot down gingers.

In my more cynical moments I sometimes think this is what is needed to get very high in corporate management. It's more about what these people DON'T SAY, which is what lawyer speak and management/corporate speak really is....it's defined by what is left out.

High up management types NEVER 'break the fourth wall' (to borrow a film idiom)...you never really see the real person just the role/persona...they keep it secret...maybe that is the source of their power?

Yep. Some of the people I've worked with glide across the floor and make flowers wilt as they pass. Dark, dark souls.

I quite accept I have not been watching a lot of it,but i just thought newspapers, jounalism, red top stuff as much as 'normal'papers was all about this kind of underhand behaviour,.

We just happen to live in a world now of bloody annoying computers and mobile phones that unfortunately people can get access too.

Probably read too much Rumpole too but I thought it was the norm for the police to be 'leaks' be it to the press or have connections with the criminals

Not that I have a cynical view of the world in general

(custard pie thing NOT funny.Apart from managing to custard pie himself)

"Heard no evil, saw no evil, don't know about any evil, and you can't ask me that awkward question in case it affects a future court case! Not fair to expect an old man like me to be guilty of anything anyway!"

What an irritating voice his son has got too!

What does James May have to do with it

Newsnight - Looks like a Tory slapper (Louise Mensch) is trying to swerve the news onto another paper publisher - Sunday Mirror

she is obviously trying to score points with Cameron

That is a brilliant line, sums up all three of them perfectly. And the committee, come to think of it.

It all goes much further than NI but, strangely, I haven't heard Millipede demanding that the Mirror Group be hauled into court as well ...
