Brand Loyalty
Always been partial to Bosch white goods and beginning to like the Samsung brand for TV/small electronics.
German cars are a winner for me recently and have always been partial to BMW's.
Anyone else?

I'll go with Alpinestars.
Heinz tomato sauce and Heinz/HP baked beans too. Not a fan of the cheapo bullet beans!
There is only one McVities Digestive too.
Oh and Walker's crisps.

I do have a penchant for Bosch powertools; Not as good as they used to be, but still pretty solid and well designed compared to others (and you can get spares).
Their white goods are often shared with other makers (Balay, Siemens, Neff etc).
Brand I love to hate is Samsung, they make some lovely looking stuff, but they have little substance - everything I've owned with a Samsung badge has disapointed me in in performance. From the noisy fridge freezer with silly shelf spacing, their useless mobile phone with crap battery life, slow CPU and awful menu interface, their TV with god-aweful sound, and their LCD monitor with the terrible colour Gamut and backlight bleeding Yet everytime I'm in a store I see somthing nice and think that looks good...then I see its a Samsung and think "dammit, they've nearly had me AGAIN!"
I'm also a sucker for Pioneer: nowhere near as good as they used to be, but still up there.

Ali, thats odd that you say that about Sammy monitors. I think it depends which 1 you have. Work has given me a 943 which I'd agree is pants, but at home I have 1 of the BX series and its stunning.

i'm more interesed in the quality of what it is rather than the brand. eg tv's some companies use exatly the same screens, just different software and name badge. i don't mind paying 1/3 of the cost for a none recognised brand but exactly the same product

Made worse by it having rave reviews for its class.....then it turned out the majority of reviewers had a monitor with a different panel (made by Samsung) to what many consumers had (which were made by either Chi-Mei or AU optronics) and had notable differnce in performance becuase of it (especially the CMO - which what I ended up with ).
Lesson learnt - what the reviewer maybe supplied with may not actually be what the consumer actually gets.

The argument for brand loyalty isn't always a convincing or sensible one.

Thats why I disregard the major reviews and go for the consumer ones. Have to say I saw the BX panel before I read up on it.
What you describe happens a lot sadly.

To a degree its all nonsense anyway.
A place I used to work in made various cosmetics - they were a world wide company in their hay day
I remember one day having to pass through production, many of the workers were frantically working away at one of the shampoo vats.
Turns out they were sieving the shampoo mix, because a roof or something like that had collapsed and a large quantity of maggots ended up in the shampoo.
That was bottled, shipped out and sold at the normal premium price they demanded
I've also seen the **** that goes into lesser quality well known brands of food products.

The only brand I have consistently stuck with over the years is Naim for my hi-fi needs, but this is because I like how they sound and their philosophy is the same now as it was then.
I would have said Subaru up until a few years ago, but the hatch is a mess, design, build and sales wise so I have moved on.

True, in this case Samsung were caught red handed with their pants down. A few main reviewers were not happy about it either and did some back to back test of the same model with different internal panels. Proving they performed differently.
What made it worse for me is Samsung then changed the model identification codes and engineer's OSD to hide what panel each monitor had (like my monitor which was a later version). Also releasing a statement saying all panels conform to their specification. However, many of the problems with these panels such as gamut, blacklight bleeding and out-of-the-box calibrations were not specified or not quantifiyable. In other words denying there was a differnce in each panel's performance.
I only found out after trying to work out why my panel has such an awful blue hue when the reviews I had read said the calibration was good out of the box. I did some futher googling and found out more or less by chance of entering the right keywords.
Problem for me now is I really want to buy a 2560×1600 or 2560×1440 monitor but now can't trust anything I read, and vary rarely do I see these in the shops for me to see for myself. And if I did, and it was a Samsung; How do I know if the one I buy has the same internal panel to one I saw on display the shop (or one taken out of stock?). Dell had the same issue with their commonly known "panel lottery" on some models. Nightmare!

Difficult to pinpoint as substance definitely wins over gloss on most occasions.
However I tend to give certain brands a simple try once, if they deliver they get used and bought again stance. Fail me or **** me off and they get dropped.
Tech- Apple (of course ) though I am open minded by this as I get to use and deal with so many other brands. Best Tools for the job really
TV - Samsung or Tosh
Audio- never been a big fan but have had NAD, B&O etc. Nowadays cant be arsed
White goods - would love to afford the better brands but usually plumb for what is the best price at the time
Car- brand loyalty went out the window many years ago
Women - see even that changes. Used to like blondes, skinny. Now, I prefer dark hair and big *****
Food - only one rule and that is it has to be Lurpak. Hate anything else
