Default Cameron - The Big Society - sheer genius

I didn't really get the Big Society thing until today, but I must say now that it is a woek of Tory genius.

Firstly you make a huge load of noise about the Big Society and how everyone should be involved in the country's future.

You then keep the definition of what it is exactly deliberately loose so that you can include or exclude things in it at will. Put good things in as a part of it and deny bad things have anything to do wth it if you will.

Then you announce a load of spending cuts in parliament

Then (and here is the clever bit) you say to the local authortieis and orgnisations like the MoD that as part of the Big Society you cannot tell them what to do (even though you have already told them they must make cuts) leaving the public to think it is them cutting the services etc. rather than the government itself.

That is genius!!!

I am sure he and his mates are desperate to sort it out because they are the sort of services they may well need.........................not!

I should think the concept must give Francis Maude (the guy in charge of pushing this) nightmares. A lot of fluff IMHO, a sort of bigger version of some Eton summer holiday project

And there is just no way of avoiding the fact that he is asking for charities to pull out all the stops but starving them of the wherewithal to do this. It doesn't wash blaming the local councils for this.

And the charity sector competing for public service business? What the hell does this mean? Dad's Army putting in a tender to run the local ambulance service or "Man with Van" pricing up for the rubbish collection? It's all bollox.

If he is going to stay at No 10 then he is going to come up with something better - one of the BIG ideas that make a difference like the formation of the NHS, sending Milliband and Clegg into space or, heaven forbid, votes for women

They have just interviewed some bloke on TV, who was going on about their local swimming pool having to close due to lack of funds.

But, fear not, the 'big society worked' as a couple of local millionaires took the pool over and it stayed open. So, the rest of us shouldn't moan and copy this example.....

what aload of..........

I think the underlying idea is about looking less to central government to solve society's problems and taking more responsibility, but it's been spun ridiculously.

You lot voted the £Millionaires in ..... so, live with it.

Inherited wealth too - not one proper job between the lot of them!

What's the chances of the Tories giving some of their £Millions to keep open the Care Homes, Libraries and ChildCare that they are destroying?

NONE!!!!

They are beyond decency ......... I DID warn you - it will only get worse!!

I think the sad reality is that Cameron’s view on the Big Society goes little further than congratulating the retired Navel Commodore for giving up a few days a week to run Topper and Laser dinghy racing for kids summer holidaying in Rock, Cornwall

(we are grateful -- but I doubt it is going to address the countries problems)

I'm not sure that is a bad thing. I'd rather the middle classes got more involved in civil life rather than Labours' agenda of massively expanding local government apparatchiks.

It's better for democracy.

No it's better for blaming all your mistakes on someone else. What the f**k do the middle classes know about running this country? As long as they have a Range Rover and large plasma TV that is all they care about!!!

Well surprise, surprise. Guess which poster takes the unpopular, generally indefensible position?

What annoys me is the devicive & cynical attempt at making us feel guilty for the lack of money to support essential services.

They unleashed (de-regulated) the dogs of greed (bankers).
As to the argument that we ourselves to blame for aquiring too much credit it is the Governments job to make laws to protect the population from it's own worst instincts otherwise I could walk down the road to the chap who owns that nice Mercedes & shoot him & take his car.

I can see them coming up with the idea of the Big Society & slapping each other on the back saying 'the stupid,un-washed plebs will never work it out. They will blame themselves for not doing anything to help.'

I do agree we should do what we can to help each other. What I object to is to a bunch of millionaires(forget about which party is to blame. They are all the same) who will never suffer from these cuts trying to deflect the blame.

Don't forget...THEY STILL THINK WE'RE STUPID.
