Those local will know of this road - its Opladen Way - the main road all through Crown Wood. There is a camera just after you go up the hill from the Sports Centre roundabout (30mph).
I know its new as my Origin Blue I did not locate it and me sister told me its only been there a very short time.

Yeah I saw that on Saturday, but I do not think it's live yet, as the road has not had the sensors put in.
Although it is highly visible as their is nothing near it and it is on a wide open road. However, there are no signposts warning of it.

They put it in on Thurs last week and AFAIK its not activated yet - mate lives at the road opposite!!!
The camera is grey with a blue tube holding the top bit - there are no road markings and there is no warning of speed cameras.
It has two round orifices at the front unlike the normal ones which have the rectangular camera hole.................

This camera is the Truvelo type and therefore catches you going towards it . The camera will not visibly flash because of the purple lens, as this will obviously dazzle you! For further information click here
If you look closely you can see where they have marked up the section of road to be dug up.
I'm just wondering how many more are going to pop up?

It looked to be one of the infra red cameras, I think they are called Truvello or something. If so it will not have any lines painted or flash when it does go off. So be carefull. That reminds me, was that not the stretch of road where some Joyrider crashed and burnt to Death a couple of years ago?
As for the white lines by KFC I am always having some non observant git do some late braking thinking that they will get Flashed and then look sheppishly in there rear view mirror when nothing happens. They have got the lines but no camera over in Windsor as well.

Ian,
That is indeed the very same stretch of road There has been a couple of deaths because of joyriders down that road over the last few years.
As for the lines in KFC and Windsor - I have no idea if they ever intend to place cameras there. Like you say, it's amazing how many people suddenly test their brakes when they see the lines!
However, both of these roads where the lines are painted are prime spots for the police as they do sit there and catch people speeding, so it should not be long before a camera does appear, and save them the job of having to sit there!

On that stretch of road past the KFC, before they put the lines down, one lunchtime the police caught something like 80 people in about 1 1/2 hours speeding !

But what's more disconcerting is that the Shell garage has cameras which look like speed ones and they do flash (to take your piccie when you fill up). Noticed them when they first painted the road and thought, but I was only doing 30 (I was going in to fill up with petrol).

A. Joyriding( ohh better not steal that car, I might get 3 points and a 60 quid fine)
B. Deaths through Joyriding(better not speed in my stolen car, i'd get done)
I agree with cameras in 30 limits, but to put one up to stop joyriders seems pretty dumb. I wish the council would investigate the reason for why people are killed/injured on a road before wacking a camera up.

The road concerned has not just had joyriders (2 I believe) killed (and I agree with your comments Neil , but there have also been people killed by speeding motorists in there own car (either 2 or 3).
From the people I have spoken to who live near the camera, it appears most of them have no idea that it actually catches you going towards it rather than away. Therefore the council are going to make a small fortune out of this to begin with.

Totally agree Scott.......
But what odds would you put on some person defacing the camera within the first week?????
A speed camera in our area is quite a novelty. The only other one I know of is on the way from Binfield by a childrens centre and park area. This is a sensible use of a camera. however it gets abused every month.

Just to let those interested know that I believe the camera is now live, as I drove past at noon today and it looked like it was being wired up as a guy had it open and had half a mile of cable on his lap.

But can they make it live with no warning signs? Thought for it to be legal they had to display signs warning its a speed camera controlled zone? Or have they put these up as well?

To be honest - I never use this route now - either go up to the Corel Reef roundabout or via Sainsburys junc. Will only use Opladen as a last resort.......
