Android apps for speed cameras?
Is there anything that's not a scam and actually works in the UK for speed cameras? Something that is usable with the navigation satnav facility.
Seen a few but they all seem to be based in the America

You can download a speed camera database from here but a subscription is required: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/
It will work with CoPilot8 for Android, less than £30 from the Android market place IIRC

get the speed camera database from pocketgpsworld for free and download the free app from Ian Hawkins called SpeedHUD.
You just need to save the camera database as a CSV file and put it on your phones SD card. SpeedHUD reads the file and warns you when you're approaching a speed camera. Other than that SpeedHUD displays your GPS speed on screen. Worth checking out, he's the guy that developed Torque which uses a bluetooth OBD2 card to read your ECU on your phone. That's wicked.

Try downloading from there. Password: speedcameras
It's tomtom version so may need reformatting slightly. I'm working tonight so I can look for a better database then, want to get it working for me as well.

Refuse to pay for something that is publicly available. You're just paying for them to format it for you so tomtom etc can read it.
If you don't have the ability to format the raw information yourself then pay the money. I however can so saving £17 for 5 minutes work seems like a good deal to me. Even willing to make it available for other people if they want it, or should I also charge knowing how little effort it took to produce?

I've uploaded a CSV file with all the latest camera locations including redlight cameras. I've formatted it specifically to be used with Ian Hawkins SpeedHUD on Android.
It's produced using publicly available information so you can use and distribute freely.
Save your £17 and have a couple of beers on me

I found the app "cameralert" excellent after hearing about it on here - its free and you can just pay to update monthly or not at all depending on if your journey is taking you through unknown areas where the mobile traps get moved
It also gives you a handy average speed total automatically when in an average speed area so you know for sure if youre safe or not
It also links to car speakers thru bluetooth
I have it on ios but id guess its out on android

I used pocket gps in the past. Paid for the yearly subscription. I downloaded the whole world databases of camera locations. It probably has saved me hundreds of pounds especially when using rental vehicles abroad. Rental companies will take speeding fines from your credit card directly. Not had a speeding fine in over 10 years in the UK by using satnavs loaded with pocket gps database. Pay your money takes your choice. £17 is nothing at all.
