Worst August for weather, ever?
The dried-up fields of July, seem but just a distant memory to me. It's rained pretty much every day since. Cold too. Be interesting to see the stats for temperature and rainfall for this month. No doubt they will both be "about average for the time of year". B0ll0cks to that, it's been a **** month. So the UK summer has now reduced to just 2 months. In fact over in West Wales it was even wretched in much of June and July too!

Used to say this about the Scottish weather but it would appear to apply to the whole of the UK now.
7 Months of crap weather and 5 months of Winter .
I'm sure I heard somewhere there would be snow in September.
Global warming my ar$e

There has been a hell of a lot of global warming falling in the south east! It has played havoc with this year's banana crop

We had 1.5" of rain just during yesterday afternoon which is a lot of water. We were a worried because we are on well water and it had gone down to 1' 9" deep only. I have just measured it and it is now 4' which is amazing for this time of year. Usually the level only starts to come up again at the beginning of November!
We might even make it through the Autumn this year. We have got 5 tubs of water and countless milk bottles full of drinking water in reserve too. Shan't stop saving it yet though!

It's considered trendy to harvest rain water these days. Ze Germans have been doing it for years and You can get kits from between £2k and £4k. Take a look at IRM, Wisy and KSB. They are rigged up so that the mains supply only kicks in when the level in the tanks drop below a certain level.

My brother had a deep well sunk out in the sticks. There's an electric pump and loads of crystals to be added. The water tastes vile and has left a brown residue on everything. It took about 3 years to get to the stage where you got out of the bath cleaner than when you got in!

It has been like someone flicked a switch this year as soon as the schools broke up.
We went away to Bournemouth early April for the missus birthday, the weather was so nice then and continued for quite sometime, certainly through May and June. Had plenty of barbecues early on and also out on my mountain bike loads in the evenings.
Also having an extension done and it stayed really dry through the ground work phase of it which was pretty useful.
Suddenly changed when we decided to go camping on the Gower (S.Wales) during a week off we had in July just before the schools finished. First few days were lovely but then the most torrential rain I've ever experienced while camping Still the tent held up okay Rest of the week was the same and has been iffy ever since

It's been the *****, that's for sure.
I try to get out for a short walk on my lunch break. Every day I stand outside at lunch time and have to guess if those blck clouds will start dropping water before I get back.
Have hardly walked this month.

We had the water analysed and there was nothing wrong with it, no bacteria or chemicals except for a bit extra manganese which is normal in Devon anyway. The water is crystal clear, no chlorine taste or anything and makes an outstanding cup of tea. We have been drinking it for 18 years so far! People used to bring 5 gallon containers to fill up to take home off their holidays!
Apart from the worry about it going low in the summer, there is no point in paying the gutbusting price by SW Water to connect us to the mains.
Its quality is appreciately better than the several time re-cycled mains water! Thats what the analyst said.

Spent July out in USA,very hot weather...115f. Walked outside and you were a puddle.
Heading back out there again end of September for 6 months, and i will experience the coldness that St Louis gets.

We had a strong elnino at the start of the year which brought dry conditions for us march to June. Then we had a fairly quick revert to lanina in June and July. This brings rain . Lots of rain. We can only hope it swings back to neutral in the autumn otherwise it will be a mild but wet winter.

No Indian Summer then?
Well after the coldest August for 17 years with double the average rainfall, we've just had a wretched wet September too.
So that's your lot for 2010 chaps.

In the summer, if the tank ran dry, we used to trek up into the woods where there was a very old well. A spring that filled a hole in the ground, basically, that had been roofed over. Buckets of water were collected and carried back to fill the water tank. Again, nowt wrong with us (health wise anyway .. ).
All this gumph about needing water purifiers/filters/etc is just a load of old cobblers (for the most part - dirty water as above excepted obviously) so that you can get sold purifiers/filters/etc. It's taken me years to get the missus to eat blackberries straight off a hedgerow for crying out loud!
Hey ho .....
