Mother in law will have to sell her house soon to move back to South Wales. She is adamant it will need a coat of paint before she sells it. I dont think its that bad. Would it be worth spending a few grand tarting up the outside to sell it or would this just be a waste of her money. Any other tips on selling a house appreciated.

Chip.

depends on the area, if it is good then the more 'tarting up u can do the better'
don't go mad though, magnolia paint, and remove all the personal affects , ie pictures ect, take out some wardrobs and other furniture.
fresh flowers, and pollish, as well as place a coffee bean under the grill for a min or to to give it a smell.
Tidy up the outside first!!
If nice area and old house put in a living flame fire with a nice suround as well as other period features if u have the cash.
Don't spend to much as potentally profit in the end.
steve
hope of a little help , no your area most important

A couple of years ago I tried for months to sell my house, no takers (I did not think it looked too badly decorated). Then diseaster happened and I had a water leak and the lounge ceiling collapsed. The ceiling was repaired, repainted and also above the dado rail was repainted, did not seem much different to me, but the house sold fairly quick after that. Moral to the story... Jen.
