Think it's time to act my age!
I am quite adventurous with the old sporting activities; skiing, motocross, mountain biking and road biking, so thought a bit of roller skating with my daughter would be safe enough, right?
WRONG!!! I am now the proud owner of distal radius fracture
What a plonker. I'm good at roller skating (in-line). I only swerved to avoid a falling child and went over. Knew I'd done something straight away due to the massive lump sticking out of my wrist and the intense pain. But being a good mum, I waited a further 2 hours before going to the hospital as I'd promised Hollie and her friend they could go swimming afterwards....
The worst thing is we are going skiing in Serre Chevalier in 4 weeks I did tell the A&E doctor (Dr Filipescu from Romania ) that I would be soaking my cast off whether it was fixed or not
Anyone else admit to injuring themselves doing something to amuse the kids? Or just plain doing something stupid?

broke my wrist in 4 places when i fell on my skates taking my little brother to a skate park. he was only about 10 at the time. well me being me thought i would put the skates on and have a little go. i thought i was doing pretty well. then on my way out to the exit i fell and what do you know. i snapped it really bad. spent 5 days in hospital with 2 operations. and in plaster for 6 weeks and my arm was set at a really horrible angle.
needless to say i havent been on them since.

Oh dear mr_D... Sounds like me, I'll try anything once. Luckily I managed to break it quite cleanly, so should be straight forward enough to heal, no ops or anything. It bloody hurts though!

I broke my wrist pretty badly when I fell off the roof. It was painful too, took a while to heal and I have permanent pain from it when used in certain directions. Still have a bit of a lump sticking out too.
Dont know how long before your plasrer will come off-may not be too long. You will have to do a parachute roll if you fall over holding your wrist clear of the ground, wont matter if its just snow anyway. Hope it heals quickly anyway.
Don't ever act your age-life is too short!

I got back on my roller blades last summer with the kids, hurtling down a hill at a fair old rate when I hit a stone or something and went airborne - used my backside as a brake and had a bruise the size of a dinner plate. Bruised my coccyx badly and garzed all my wrists
As I was with the kids I'd worn all my pads to set an example so it could have been worse, still couldn't run for 2-weeks and could barely walk for the first few days.
I'll be back in the same park, on the same hill, wearing the same roller blades again this summer - you wait and see
Is it time to grow up, that's like saying when is it time to grow old and die gracefully and the answer is never

Les and Jon, OK, I won't act my age I should have a seat reserved in A&E cos I have fear, but not like a normal woman should have at my age.
Worst thing is they had safety equipment including wrist guards available there, but I thought I'd be OK without them. I probably wouldn't have done it if I'd put them on... You live and learn.

Jon, I'm only just 38, so I can be excused
Lee, when will grown ups learn? I am not suffering too badly, taking lots of pain relief though....

Course they will - in 4 weeks time it'll be hanging off your arm so no danger of swelling.
Anyway, a radius fracture cast could easily be covered by a baggy sleeve and a Michael Jackson glove. Ermm, Shamone, etc.
I've travelled in various casts in the past (no, none of the ones from Fame or Billy Elliott, thank you).

Phew Fat Boy
I will have a different cast by then hopefully, so it won't be hanging off as much as this one.
Will look for removable splints if they won't let me have it off

Well, day 2 and I have just had a shower with a plastic bag God knows how I am going to dry my hair, I can't just leave it....
Had the pain of watching husband, brother-in-law and father-in-law all have fun down at the SnoZone in MK last night, wishing I was out there too... I did drink 2.5 pints of cider, so that softened the blow. Good excuse not to be able to drive
Still hurts quite a bit. Thought I'd stop taking a few painkillers to see if I could wean myself off, but looking doubtful Never mind, got consultant appointment tomorrow

I've only broken one bone ever. It was my fifth metatarsal on my left foot. I stood on a round stone and my foot went sliding into an pot hole!!!! All i had was a small sting and that's it. I just carried on, didn't notice anything was wrong untill i got home and couldn't get my boot off because of the swelling. Went to the hospital got an x-ray and then i spent 8 weeks in plaster

I'm glad I'm not the only silly bugger round here
I managed to do my hair which was my main concern. Couldn't bear the thought of hideous hair as well as having a spazy arm.
