Default Insurance excess

Just got some quoutes on Go compare, intially looked ok but the excesses were £750, what is normal, I was ok with £250 but £750 is basically almost like paying for insurance and then paying for any accident you may have !

£500 on the scoob and £100 on my van. I don't think there is a normal as every ones different. Have a look in the insurance section and get some company's from there to quote you !

Isn't it go compare that's advertised on the telly with the little slider for adjusting the excess?

my brother in law in his 40s, good south east postcode, just crashed his MY99 turbo.

£400 a year fully comp - £700 excess, madness if you ask me.

Over £300 is too much in my opinion. And I sell it for a living.

Dont try and get the premium so low that its a useless policy (so high excess you would never claim). Thats what they want you to do

I got a great deal

I have just insured my Civic type r for £400 with the RAC. They didnt provide a courtesy car but as i has RAC breakdown cover i get the courtesy car chucked in. Not bad considering i got the breakdown cover for £8!! It was dearer but i got cash back from Quidco making it £8. The excess is £350, 100 more than with the scoob.

I got a really good deal as the car has modified suspension, coliovers, AEM induction kit and a piper x exhaust system. I put these into the comparison site and it was only £15 more than without the mods.

£450 for me.
Best not to crash your car eh!
I agree with Seton - I think £300 is enough.

My renewal came through for the MG and its bloody dropped in price

I have not read all the bumpf yet as its not due till the end of the month, will check the excess, might even have another mouch on the compare websites to see if i can shave a little bit off.

When i was 17 years old i was paying 850quid on a battered old 1.0 Nova, and it has been pretty much 1k ever since, no matter what the car, apart from when i picked up the scooby and it was 2k

To get a quote of 375 fully comp, i was stunned, it was 450 last year with the same company

I pay £500 excess on personal vehicles Jacko. Speaking to various people this seems the norm, obviously it goes what value your car is.

Cheapest quote on Confused.com = 451.51 quid
Most expensive = 5k what the hell the car is not worth that much

Think i will stick with the current company.

Seems OTT to me. The premiums must be low then.

My excess is £1000, i think it is due to age, but this makes the insurance a lot cheaper than if i had £500 or so excess.

Thing is, i have excess insurance so i get every penny back once the claim goes through. The cost of the excess insurance is a lot less than the higher cost of insurance with no excess.

Does that excess insurance work even if your at fault?

I don't take too much notice of internet quotes, as very often the price you get quoted compared to the final price you have to pay is massively different.

Have heard of a few people who have bought online policies, then found out they have a £2500-3000 excess when they have an accident. (tend to get that when you have a young driver named on the policy)

Our excess is 250.00 premium is £ 300.00(approx, give or take a few pence)

Would not be happy with a higher excess TBH

I think it does, It might be a case of if it is my fault it will pay back half of it or something....

Either way it was so cheap i stuck it on there so cant go wrong really.

When you think about it, an extremely relevant (hidden) cost, is the effect a claim will have on your next premium.
I had a claim recently (100%) my fault, and the increase in premium was negligible.
Not what I was expecting at all!!!
ps Moley - is a half-trackday half the normal premium?
