iphone settings
I have certain amount of class and therefore do not own an iphone..... however an almost-chav-like friend of mine does have one and she needs a little help.
She wants to know if it is possible to alter the settings so that she is alerted if she gets an email to her hotmail addy.
If yes, can you please let me know how it is done.
Thanks

Well that is a sure fire way to get help, slagging off iPhone users, then asking for them to give you some assistance
Go to "Settings", "Mail, Contacts, Calendars", "Add Account", "Other", "Add Mail Account", and follow the prompts to put in the user information.
This will then set up the Hotmail email account on the iPhone
Jason (definately not a chav, even though I use an iPhone)

As mentioned above, the information will allow you to recieve email from hotmail on the iPhone.
You may also want to go into Settings -> Sounds and configure the "new mail sound" option, as to wether it plays a sound when a new email arrives, and if it will also vibrate at the same time.
Note that unlike missed calls, voicemails and new sms messages you will NOT see a little alert on the lock screen (the screen where is states "slide to unlock") when a new email arrives. If you jailbreak the phone then I believe you can get apps to add this type of functionality to the lock screen.
The normal display will be the mail icon in the dock at the bottom of the screen will display a little red circle indicating new unread email. Apart from that, as mentioned, you will hear an alert sound and/or the phone will vibrate when a new email comes in.
One thing to note is that if she has multiple email accounts on the phone then it will vibrate/sound when ANY of them get a new message, there is no way (maybe with jailbreaking but I'm not sure) to have a different sound depending on the account receiving a new email, it's an all or nothing thing.

I log into the following instead;

I'm pretty sure you will have to check the "push" functionality too, as mine was set to never, and would only download new emails when I had my hotmail app open.
You can set it to check for a new mail at different timed intervals.
With that said, I'm going to put my Burberry cap on, wrap up warm with my shell suit, and head down to Netto's to buy a crate of super tennants with my benefits cheque.
