Question

as the thread says.

i'm looking of doing quite a bit of importing from the states!

currently i'm importing using the Company i'm dealing with's america parcel delivery service.
how can i sort out import delivery myself to get the costs down???

also
i have to pay VAT on the product costs AND the delivery cost?
is this right?

my parcel last week DIDN'T have a Import Duty on it!!
this week it did!!
why would this be?????????

any help is much appreciated.
this will be a new venture for me and i want to get it right!!!

Duty is down to whether customs picked up on it as a trade or private.

There are a couple of thresholds re value etc. Was the one with import duty greater in value ? Plus different goods carry different rates.

The taxman will get you always. Watch they don't mark you as a trader and come asking what profit you make !

You importing them dodgy dvd's again m8. if so I'll have 2

I don't know whats what but to get out of the duty, can you not get the parcels sent to someone in america, then getting them to personally send them to you as a gift.

gift = no duty to pay? i may be wrong. or you could go over there yourself on a cheap flight and get it while your over and bring the stuff back personally.

Duty is payable on gifts too, unless they're worth less than 35 quid IIRC

Phil, I'm afraid so on the tax front, I got caught out that way, ordered a couple of pairs of trousers a few years ago, the £40 for them became just under £80 once all the taxes, etc were added on I did get next day delivery though I don't normally get that from places in the UK. Delivery was by DHL.
