Default Do I need a digital TV Box for .........

Hi Guys hope someone knows this as my Mother in Law is wanting to hook up her T.V upstairs.............

1. Satellite dish installed - running 1 STB downstairs (Non Subscribed - Freeview). Dish right outside the window of the bedroom........

2. Ariel installed opposite side of house (position relevant for installation depending on the answer I get)..............

Will the Tv pick up a signal from the dish or the ariel, WITHOUT a digi box OR will a digi box be required for either option, dish is easiest option if I can split the feed.........to digi box or directly into the RF socket of the TV Thankyoooooooooo.

If it's a modern TV and has a DVB-T or Freeview tuner, it can use the TV aerial.

If it doesn't, you will require a "freeview" STB or a satellite "freesat" box.

If you want to run it off the satellite dish you will need an LNB per feed. So if you have a single LNB installed, it'll need replacing with a dual or quad. Careful of the LNBs as sky mini-dishs have their own "eliptical focus" LNBs.

...guess who's gathering bits for his freesat install...?

Hey Mate - thanks for that, it's a 15" LCD/DVD Combi, don't think it has a freeview tuner, as it wasn't a high end T.V., I also think the Dish is a pr-supplied Sky one, does that mean that LNB's aren't available for this type of dish ?

Good Luck with your install too.............

Any Universal LNB will work.

Right if just want terrestial TV use the aerial not ariel some cheap flat screen tvs have Freeview in post a picture of the TV i can let you know.(thats if your aerial can receive freeview)

If you want to use the dish you will need a quad LNB .DO NOT SPLIT IT.

you will then also need to get a freesat decoder (STB).

Also does she get terrestial tv downstairs? if so you can come out the Sky box down stairs using the RF2 output and run a cable to her bedroom.

Thanks Antc - the T.V is new I will check the box when I go down to see if it includes a Freeview tuner - downstairs her main Tv is connceted to a Virgin V+ and the satellite dish feeds an old STB(kitchen), which picks up non subscribed channels....
