Going for an MRI scan.........
............this afternoon at 4.30, what to expect?
Anyone had one? How long does it take?
I was OK with it until they rang to book me in, then I got a load of questions about metal fragments in my eyes, etc that have put the wind up me a bit.
And if they are worried about tiny metal fragments in your eye, WHY don't they bother about metal based fillings?

You are having your head MRI'd?
Most of the ones in the UK you are fully immersed in a metal tube and you will hear loud noises. It'll take 10 minutes to an hour depending on how much of your body is being scanned.
It isn't painful or particularly unpleasant UNLESS you are claustrophobic.

As above, I had one for my back after an accident a few years ago. The worst part for me was sitting around in a hospital gown waiting for the person in front of me to finish.
Its a tight squeeze it the old tube thing but its not bad at all. Think of happy things or run through a couple of songs in your head and you'll be done, Nothing to worry about at all buddy.

I had one on my back, it is very claustrophobic and noisy in there but just keep your eyes shut and try and drift off somewhere nice in your head. The hardest part for me was keeping still

as it is your back you may not be fully into the machine so it may not be as claustrophobic.
It is just boring and noisy plus you have to keep still for the entire scan so make sure you are comfy before they start.
I was in for half an hour but they had to abort as the pulses started to make the muscles in my leg twitch and as they were scanning my knee they could not carry on..
My niece had to have her head scanned so she was fully inside and she really is scared of anything but she was fine so there is really nothing to worry about unless you do not like confined spaces..And there is a panic button if it gets to much for you

The
Reason for the questions Is because the equipment uses giant magnets to do the picture of whatever part of you is in the machi MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) Ive had a couple over last few months although I forgot when having second one I now have 2 metal screws in my ankle and I forgot to tell them, was also the case with a cat scan I had last week but there was no detrimental effect.

I had ultrasound on my nads, at the local clinic, got old to strip and put a gown on, put it on and it must have been age 6/7, it didnt do up exposing my backside and I swear my **** was dangling below the hem, not a good look, told the nurse and she said "Dont worry, we have seen it all before", in other words, its a slow day, lets watch this bloke squirm, felt like saying that I have seen plenty of fannies, lets see yours !

Well, got it done, nowt to it, fully clothed bar any jewellery.
Young lass operating the mchine was canadian and very pretty, shame I could only HEAR her once I was in the thing
J4CKO's post reminded me of when I got myself snipped: there I was, laid on the trolley in a gown, waiting to go into theatre, I SWEAR thay EVERY nurse that walked by lifted the gown for a look, with the excuse, "Let's just see if you shaved, shall we".

Had one a couple of months ago on my knee, 20 minutes inside the machine, you have to lay still and ear defenders on. It is a horrible noise though. You wont feel a thing
Doh, just realised you were updating the thread... Time to wake up Dave!
