Planning permission/building regs question
Lets say pp is granted to have an extension that can only be 3m in depth. How much tolerance will the council accept? ie if I built it and it was say 5 inches bigger would they make me pull it down?
Thanks

Get in touch with them and explain the bricklayers have misread the plans I can't see them making an issue of it. If you have never had anything extended on the property before your allowed upto 70cubic mtrs without the need for planing permission as long as it doesn't exceed 2m in height within 1.8m of a boundary.

5 inches at 1:100 is a shade over 1mm... Planning will barely be able to read the drawing to that sort of accuracy.

It really depends on whether the differences are material or not. There are a great many factors that might go into determining whether a difference is material or non-material and even if it is material it may be granted planning permission retrospectively or through the grant of a material variation to an existing planning permission. This is one of these situations where it'll come down to the judgement of the local planning officer(s).
The best advice is to always build in accordance with the approved plans. However, my gut instinct is that something 5in bigger than an approved 3m is unlikely to cause you too much grief.
