FG Wilsons outside Belfast build big generators - biggest I have seen so far has covered 4 lanes of motorway and couldn't move at more than 2 MPH. The truck had 60 axles with 8 wheels on each axle.
Biggest thing I have ever seen being transported by road was a complete fuselage of a 767. Absolutely awesome sight

I remember when they had to transport the wings and body of the Angel of the North...

I believe that there was a documentry on it - that was pretty impressive !

The Shearer shirt arrived by DHL !

The biggest engine i have seen/worked on was on board a malaysian warship, it had 20 cylinders, 5 turbo's/intercoolers and was over 60 foot long, and the ship had 2 of these for propulsion

ALE = Abnormal Load Engineering. IIRC they're based in the midlands, specialise in moving massively heavy loads. Looks like it's a transformer or something..

These were coming out of Teignmouth, Devon in about 1990, up a 2 mile climb. Two pulling and one pushing the transformer. It was brought by ship to the docks, on the trailer, and then moved about 12 miles inland.

Get quite a lot of massive loads going to and from the BP refinery at Grangemouth and Grangemouth docks - how's this for starters?

A recent arrival meant turning a load of roundabouts into straight-abouts
