Default Speed seminars

My eldest has got offered one, which he agreed to do about three weeks back in order to avoid points. Now an offer has come through, but he's now working in Holland.

He accepted the job AFTER saying he'd rather the seminar than the points, but BEFORE they offered one.

What will happen now?

So they won't defer it? Are they THAT desperate for cash?

Just get him to take the points, 3 points is hardly worth a day of his life being told speed kills.
If he's not even in the country why bother, just pay the fine and take the points.

Only 22, and drives a Clio 197 Sport, won't it hammer up his insurance?

Very surprised that they won't defer it. Would that be the same answer if he had been taken ill and could not go?

3 points rarely make any difference to insurance, there's not many people left in the country without them! Give the insurance a ring first though but i'd say if he's concerned about that then he's definately driving the wrong car as insurance must be £1000 or so at the moment?

But your turn will come!!

I got mine last January & the letter advising me arrived on Valentines Day - joy!

I requested a Speed Seminar to avoid the points, but was told 'on this occasion' they couldn't offer me one.

I did ask if they thought I was going to make a habit of it, as the words 'on this occasion' implied - it was the first points ever in 23 years.

They didn't reply to my letter......................

Jeff, I'm only 24 and have 2 years NCB. On my record I have 2 non fault claims, a group 14 car (1.9 205 GTi) and 3 points for a TS10 (running a red light). My understanding is gnerally the first 3 points may make a difference for speeding, but 3 points for something like a TS10 is considered worse.

Really what I'm saying is I managed to survive the 3 points come renewal time while having a sporty hatch, so would assume given the similar age/experience, your son shouldn't be too hard done by. Think it's generally more accepted folk get speeding points all the time, whereas other points don't come along that often - just my luck eh?
