Of course he is.

BBC NEWS | World | South Asia | Pakistan votes to amend rape laws

I'm guessing you no longer need 4 male witnesses to a rape !!!

This is how one religion treats females, it is not the only religion to treat them as second class citizens.

I wonder how many rapes where reported in Pakistan for example, needing 4 male witnesses to the rape...

Rather than let this turn into a Muslim basing thread it would be interesting to hear how Muslims feel about these laws and Sharia law which some would like introduced/integrated into the UK.

Are there any female Muslim Scoobynetters???

Is it a matter of how a religion treats females or a matter of what is culturally acceptable?

For instance, I don't think the Christian bible or the Jewish equivalent forbid polygamy (just ask a Mormon).
Looking at the following commandment (Deut), it would appear that ones wife is indeed ones property!
"You shall not covet your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour."

Food for thought?

It seems that the religion you follow pretty much sets you moral compass, non believers excluded. Part of a bigger debate i suppose which has been had many times on SN.

Even though i am not religious i have be brought up in a western and predominantly CoE country and therefore my moral compass is greatly affected by that. Also the law as well plays an important part.

I do however feel rape is wrong and even if legalised i would not do it as it is wrong (IMHO) if you see what i mean.

It does appear that certain religions do see women as property and second class and therefore can be treated any way you wish, not just Muslims BTW.

This is another example of why islam has no place in a civilised society.

All these ******* with the short hair and massive beards are hell bent on taking us back to the dark ages.

Their oppression of women is pathetic, may be they need a good few pints and a bit of a dance, then they might cheer up!

Oops, they have banned alcohol, music and even literacy for themselves and their women, no wonder they are all angry at us, who lead normal lives.

I went to the trafford centre the other week, and there was loads of women in that stupid head to toe **** they wear, all looking depressed, as they waited outside shops for there so called husbands to tell them they are allowed to move to the next shop.

A couple even made, what i think, were rascist comments to my missus, cos she had a bit of midrif on show, and you could see the hatred in their eyes as they spoke

If you dont like it, **** off to be oppressed somewhere else!

I think you need to research rape a little more before condemning Islam. As opposed as I am to ANY form of religious fundamentalism, in this particular case I think you need to realise that our own countries views about rape within a marriage are not 'ahead'

From here:
"She was probably glad of the attention": tackling rape in the UK | open Democracy News Analysis
The stereotype of stranger rape continues to create obstacles to prosecuting the majority of rapes, which are committed by acquaintances, partners or ex-partners. It is only since 1991 that there has been a precedent in English law for prosecuting rape within marriage. Even today, the police are still less likely to prosecute cases where, for example, the victim was willingly within the home of the perpetrator, and sentences for marital rape continue to be lower than average rape sentences. Women are often viewed as partly responsible for the state of their relationship or partner's behaviour where rape takes place within a marriage, and the links between rape by partners and domestic abuse are not always recognised. It is often presumed that rape within marriage is less violent and traumatic, although psychological studies and accounts by victims of marital rape contradict this assumption (pdf).

Good point.
It would seem to concur that cultural factors are more important than religion per se.

you need to go out out more mate and meet more people i think if you knew any muslims you wont say these stories, i come from a very religous family and in the last 26 years my dad has never hit my mum. i really advice you to go out and make more of an effort with a muslim neighbour and see how he treats you. not all muslims are the same not evryone on scoobynet is a saint, you will clearly get scum in every culture.

the whole thing about beard it really doesnt make sence, so just because they have short hair and beard it means they are horrible?? because you see that on the media it doesnt make it true.

Catholicism and Judaism being another two Paul. If you want to see women treated as posessions, or second class citizens just take a trip over to the Emerald Isle

Try India, even now in most places women are considered worthless and have no real rights... easy to pick out faults of a religion based on some idiot who got quoted in some newspaper.

We should look at the trash that is in the UK, does religion have a place in stories you read and hear about children being abused and killed etc?

For the youngsters here, can I remind you that it was legal for a man to rape his wife in this country right up until the 1980s. And it wasn't the church or government which overturned that right, but the high court. You know - that bunch of out-of-date old codgers everyone complains about.

Because of one persons misguided/twisted stupid thoughts on what Islam allows I guess you lot think all muslims are rapists/wife beaters.

I am a muslim and have never come across any of this violence/abuse towards females. males & females are treated equally in my family!

I didn't know this forum had so many narrow minded, ill educated members.
I try to keep away from threads like these as I have friends from many ethnic/religious backgrounds.

All you tend to hear nowadays is Islam this an Islam that...... ffs before you jump on the bandwagon do some research into the religion.

Yeah - I know what you mean.

All those islamic bombers - they're all catholics really - just trying to run down the good name of Islam .

I think you'll find most of us in here just don't like any kind of Religion - It just enables nutters to get weak minded morons to do things they otherwise would not !

Not that long ago in the UK that the local lord of the manor had first dibs on your wife's virginity on the wedding night when one of his tenants or serfs got married. It was called 'Droit de Seigneur'
