the end of subaru full stop IMO
the only thing they had going for them was the "rally image" that makes everybody believe they have some sort of rally car.
the current car is gash and now has no "rally" image to help it sell.

Because if it's moved there will be about 6 more threads of a similar title before the end of tomorrow
B2Zero - Pretty much how I felt, they will be one of the THE teams I always associate with WRC, just like the Martini liveried Lancia.

it just means there wont be so much noise and fumes when we are out drinking on the next WRC tour!!!
plus the effect it will have on saving the environment !!

It's a real shame. As Micky said, as lot of the appeal of Scoobies is tied up in their success in rallying. BUT
The real issue behind Subaru's failings of late have been more to do with the design direction they've taken. It seems like somewhere along the line they've either fundamentally misunderstood the desires of their demographic, or make a conscious attempt to move away from them.
Either way it was a very dubious thing to do and it appears to have been reflected in their sales figures even before the current financial slump hit.
It's all a bit sad.

Good move. They need to change the image of the brand. they were cars driven by knowledgeable enthusiasts. Know it's seen as a brand driven by gangsters, chavs, ******* and boy racers.
the brand needs to taken on a more grown up image.

The original Impreza was a ground breaking classic.

wonder what image they would like to have?
they don't make good enough cars for "premium" types
the engines are soft, they guzzle fuel and the interiors are crap, everybody always says that the newest scoob has a much better interior then the old ones, what complete and utter ****e, they just look a bit more modern, they are still built in the same poor fashion.

Ford & Citroen will follow suit.
Ford because they're in the Sh*t worse than anyone except GM, and Citroen because they'll be the only Manufacturer left and think it's not worth it.
WRC next year will be all privateers

Really sad, whats happening?? Soon motorsport will be only PHAT CATS who no one can afford to develop a car to beat them.
Whats F1 without honda??
Whats WRC without subaru??
And if this is all reimaging, HOW?? The impreza ain't no family car and we're all boy racers at heart otherwise you wouldn't of got a subaru and put a big exhaust and graphics on it
Lets not forget why we all have scoobies! Lets just hope subaru don't move on to slow family cars running on gas/electric (trying modding that) then where do we go?

I can imagine the the financial climate is as good a reason for withdrawal as any. Its not cheap to do all that. I think the other manufacturers will tend to do the same and the WRC will suffer for it.
I also associate the Subaru's with the WRC and it is a shame if they won't be there any more. At least the Impreza itself is still a magnificent machine as a straight road car and I have very special memories of mine. I did a lot of tweaking of it etc and it all paid off in a very satisfying manner.

Very sad news, the image was always rally related or farmer inspired!
However wait for Ford, possibly Citroen and any other manufacturer. They all want to compete against each other, the fewer manufacturers in rallying the less it means. Start of the slippery slope for WRC, its just too expensive for privateers.

Was quite upset at the news this morning.
I have always associated the brand with rallying and was one of the reasons whilst younger, I loved watching rallying and ultimately chose the car I have now.
Obviously in the current climate it is a wise choice, though it will do nothing for Subaru as a brand and could even spell the demise of the impreza in the long run. Who knows ?
Just a crying shame for the WRC and it will just not be the same

Senna - McLaren Honda...?? Honda may not have run their own cars but their engines have won many a race in F1.
We have to remember that the UK is weird for Subaru, we are the only market where they sell more performance than standard models, largely thanks to WRC and McRae, Burns etc. The rest of the world doesn't care at all and buys the basement spec models.

Taking over Honda F1 would be a very different prospect. Not least the size of the organisation. The amount of money needed just to pay overheads and wages. Then the Millions needed to test/Race etc.
How would they raise the money in todays climate?
Prodrive would/will only enter F1 if they can buy the car off someone else.
