Question Next Retailers To Fold?

Just been in Town for 6 hours trying to finish everything off.

Visited many shops, some had mile long queues, some had none at all!

I cannot see how the likes of BOOTS, BHS and DEBENHAMS are going to survive ..... BOOTS and DEBENHAMS are ridiculously expensive and run buy 2 get 1 free offers - when all anyone wants is a realistic price.

BHS are simply a WOOLWORTHS ..... no real place to fit into.

QS and PEACOCKS seem doomed too IMHO.

Some retailers will go in the New Year - your guesses?

If putting out annoying adverts at this time of the year were a consideration, ADSA would be shut down tomorrow. grrrrrr! fecking ****!

Agree with you about BHS, they could be the next Woolies...

I doubt Boots will be going anywhere, the retail part is not their only source of business. Fulfilment of pharmacy scripts is a large part of their business.

BHS have been in trouble before and I doubt they will survive. Boots will as they have a solid business. Well, as solid as it gets in this changing world.

I was thinking WHSmith, but they seem to have a good business with increased revenue and profit. They were hit by the circulation of magazines dropping in general but appear to have diversified and will survive.

I wouldn't be surprised if Games Workshop and the like fold.
They have always seemed to have money problems in the past.

The more that fold the better IMO. I'm looking forward to the next retailer to go bankrupt. Just think how many bargains I'll be able to pick up.

Of course it will be a shame for those losing their jobs. Some might even lose their homes as a result as well - but I can't wait to dip my bread.

Dixons Group (inc Currys and PC World) has just made a big loss, and there is speculation they could end up going under. Curry's are closing 77 stores over the next few years.

Zavvi looks very likely to go bust as well, as EUK (who supplied all their CD's etc) has now gone bust (were part of Woolworths, who went bust) so they've got no stock and are missing out on the Christmas period when all the profit is made. They've even stopped taking orders online...

From what I understand, PC World are doing okay. Being dragged down by the rest of the group. If anything they will be sold as a going concern.

The DSGi Group would do quite well ......... IF they understood the two words, "CUSTOMER SERVICE".

So, for me, I wouldn't mind one jot if Currys, Dixons, PCWorld and Pixmania went bust.

DFS are a private company. Lord Kirkham (who owns) is a multi-millionaire, and he can afford to ride the storm for years.

On the contrary, they supplied me with a 42" Plasma TV and refunded 100% of my purchase price + costs when the nice Judge asked them to

They are too small an outfit to take me on

When all of these retailers that youre all looking forward to folding have gone: what will be left? The stupidity of SN posters never fails to amaze me.

Ebay

It's obvious. All the amazing bargains I have bought from failing high street brands with my enormous cash spending power will then be auctioned to the underclasses for a massive profit.

I will then be both rich and successful and you will all envy me.

Could it be that decent, relevant and customer focused retailers will rise in their place?

If there is a demand it will be filled.

I long for the days of the independent stores: The ones with customer service, salesmen that knew what they were on about. And didn't fob you off should you have a problem.

They still exist in Spain, and its made me realise what we have lost in the modern UK high street.

Independent store are long gone from most UK high streets; only the specialist ones remain which charge through the nose for the privilege. They have to with the overhead of running a business in todays climate.

Who do we thank for that? Big chain retailers? Yes. New Labour? Why not! Internet? You bet!

However with the internet; it does give independent stores the ability to thrive. Whilst the big companies are slow to move and offer good prices, whilst still being able to maintain profits from the huge overheads caused by their oversized stores across the nation constantly leaking money down the drain. It ables the smaller companies to serve that need just as well and undercut them as they have lower overheads.
