I'm 26 and have owned my own home for just over a year .. my dad used to fix all sorts of things around our house as we grew up, but he didnt show me or allow me to help

The bath has been taking ages to empty recently .. so I thought, lets have a look.. I removed the pipes and the block.. eeeewwww btw .. and put it back together.. it leaked in every possible place ..

I got so fed up I went out and spent £12 and replaced the lot, the plug hole and all the pipes going outside .. and ... AND it works .. there are no leaks and the water runs perfectly .. its like it was made by God himself !!!

I have no reason for posting this other than to say how proud I am of myself for doing this ... when I have no idea what I'm doing to me..

well done! (next time your bath takes a while to empty, just buy some 'one shot' from B&Q... it burns the blockage away... simple!

Did you use solvent weld (glued) joins or compression? A very important decision for any man. D

Easier to move house ..

 

I can go with this sentiment. As a lad my first car's heater never worked and it always ran cold.
I found a reply to someone else's letter in Cars and Car Conversions, (respect), which suggested what the problem was, (thermostat, of course, but at 19 I didn't know).

I went to a motor factors in Aston, Birmingham, where I was at uni, and bought a 1/2" AF spanner, a thermostat, a gasket and a small bottle of anti-freeze.

An hour later it was done. I fired her up and drove round the block......and I had heat!!!

The elation took AGES to dissipate and the whole thing gave me confidence to tackle other jobs later.

 

Bicarb and hot water or Caustic soda - or that commercial 'melts anything it touches' stuff?

Sod the environment - clean my drain

What you didn't 'paint' the joint with the solvent first ? Best learn plastering asap mate - or use the hosepipe for showers.... Also do keep people clear below...

I just had a bath and no leaks

 

Bad bad move. I did a simple plumbing job recently, and now the family is convinced that I'm quite capable of singlehandedly refitting the bathroom

Doing something yourself is great, Ive found im good with wood, lol, wouldn't wanna do it allday, but I can build fings car port, fences and stuff

 

I stripped the kitchen and bathroom to bare brick re-built the lot, installed central heating and re-wired the place.... with the help of a "mate" with corgi, etc......











Then I sold it quick !
