Scrappy, AFAIK the camera and flash only trigger a couple of seconds after a car passes through on RED. I have passed through on amber / nearly red a couple of times on the way to work in similar circumstances to yours, ie don't want slamming up the back. Cars behind me have always burried the brake pedal into the carpet to stop. That nutter behind you obviously didn't know there was a camera, it will be him that gets the ticket and points
Hate speed cameras more than these, as I do think they contribute to road safety, ie they prevent blatant red light jumpers

Angry

Crossing yesterday with the Green Man on my side and nearly got totalled by a bus that decided to plough through a Red light. Bloke next to me was very lucky.

Everybody makes mistakes, but this had been Red for a while, and takes some time to cross to the centre.

Heavy goods vehicles and buses seem to be the biggest culprits to this red light jumping sin IMHO. Number of times I have been nearly levelled by a juggernaught when the lights turn green
Seems that the 0-30 in fifteen minutes makes them reluctant to stop. Not knocking lorry or bus drivers if there are any reading, just that some are complete pillocks

I think HGV's are allowed to go through red lights if it is deemed too dangerous for them to stop. However, the level of commitment to this varies between drivers....
