Default Isle of Man - Places to Stay

Looking to go to the Isle of Man in September (just for the sake of it not to see any particular races) does anyone know a good cheap place to stay (preferably self catering cottage type thing) that will sleep four blokes (in their own beds although twin rooms allowed) that is within staggering distance of a pub?

Basically want to spend a few days touring round but we'd like to do it as cheap as we can (without sleeping in a skip) so if anyone has been before and knows the places to stay/avoid that would be great.

All suggestions welcome.

Isle of Man Scoobies have a site on the SIDC forum - might get a better response by posting there

my DAD's thre this week for the Manx GP, he's at the HILTON, it worked out cheaper to share a room with his mate than going into a home stay for the GP week.

I've been over a few times, but have always camped. I base myself in Laxey when I'm there, in the Quarry Road campsite.

I can't recommend any specific places to stay, apart from maybe the Shore Hotel in Laxey. I've been there a few times for meals/beers, it's a lovely place and has its own microbrewery out back. I think they have rooms there.

We've been staying in a B+B in Hutchinson Square, Douglas for the last 14 years (we go for the TT). A mad Swiss woman (Madeleine) who is a lovely, lovely person. You're treated like one of the family. I can pm you details if you like.

Iwan, that sounds great. Microbrewery getting a vote.

oldsplice, would like those details if you can send them to me. Can't beat a bit of local knowledge and recommendations from those that have been before. Give me your name too and i'll name drop you so she knows who recommended her.
