Default Kaupthing Edge

I have just set up a savings account with this Icelandic bank. They are offering a good rate (6.55%) and guarantee to always be above the Bank of England rate.

I probably should have asked before, but has anyone used them? Any comments?

I've got an account with them which I've had for a few months and I've been happy with them, and have no concerns about filling it up to the insured limit (35k)

Excellent rate of interest, so would recommend

Opened one but have yet to put some cash into it. Appeared to get locked out for some reason when entering my password etc., probably need to ring them to sort it but haven't got that far yet

Must be more organised

Have a look around here Savings & Investing - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

They often discuss various aspects of these overseas banks

I've got money spread amongst the Icelandic Banks - do NOT keep more than £35k in any one institution.

I also have ICICI and many others, the major headache is the £35k limit ... but it's important to be careful.

yes i've been a customer for a few months now. now impressed with their self service website compared to Alliance & Leicester's, but it's the high interest rate i'm happy with.

We've got a combined £10k with them

I just received my password, gone to their website to login and I get:

So not TOO impressed just yet...

So the advice is don't invest more than 35K?

Right, in that case I'll rob a bank tomorrow and tell them to only give me £34999!

Are you lot really old or something? I've saved for a few years but I don't have that amount of savings after buying a house etc. Or are you all just paid a huge amount?

Maybe once I passed 30 and settled down I may be able to save a bit more, but all I seem to do is pay the mortgage, pay the bills, buy a few boys-toys, have excellent holidays and enjoy myself. Or is that where I am going wrong?

It must be cheaper than getting married and divorced though

Absolutely. I tend to limit the maximum to £33,500 per account to allow for accumulating interest.

Oh, and don't forget, the £35,000 is for each banking licence, so when there are more than one bank under the same banner you should limit yourself to £35,000 between them.
