speed cameras
just driving home this morning about 10.30. the first part of my journey is along a dual carrigeway. i set the cruise control to 60. was tootling along. there is about a 1/2 mile of road works where the speed sign says 40. both lanes are open, no coned off areas to follow. of course, sinky having a ***, catching some rays doesn't see the speed enforcement van until i am on top of it.
i didn't see a sign saying they where in operation, there were no workmen out today, i was just crusing along nicely. what do you lot think? big fine? points?

Coppers want to get to doing real police work, rather wasting time sitting in vans with speed cameras.
Sounds like there was no need for the speed camera or reduced speed limit to me.
You'll probaly get the usual fine and some points, I'd apeal it though as is seems they are just trying to trap people and make some easy money.

There has to be some kind of sign to say that speed cameras are there, be it fixed ones, or mobiles ones, im nearly sure.....fair enough you were breaking the speed limit, but its a bit like entrapment having no warning signs, check out the site, pepigoo (or whatever its called) that should give you some id3ea, if there were no warning signs, id be tempted to make note of this and some pics and take it further if you get the dreaded post...

Visibility of Police Officers Who Are Performing Speed Checks
ACPO Traffic Enforcement Guidelines are also not mentioned in the law, but they unambiguously state that traffic officers performing speed checks should do so from a position that's clearly visible to the public - take a look.
"31.2 The operator must be clearly visible to the public and the target vehicle throughout the check."
So, if you see a Traffic Officer hiding behind a bush or working from inside an unmarked transit van, why not stop and ask them if they realise that their conduct is breaching the ACPO guidelines - please don't forget to ask them for their name, number and the contact details of their Chief Constable so that you can write a letter of complaint about the officer's conduct.
