I’m the first to admit that Dubya is not normally the sharpest tool in the box but the news yesterday gave me a new found respect for his administration.

Polar Bear listed as an endangered species – master stroke of political savvy

The Americans have always seemed to block target setting and generally fob off the rest of the world but by doing this ole Dubya has the climate change bill he needs via the backdoor. Any direct controls of the average Yank to pollute less and save energy is domestic suicide so this method is genius.

Now it will be illegal for Americans to kill the Polar Bear or in anyway damage its habitat. As they live on the sea ice shelves that are receding due to Global Warming then America can now take itself to court and will be the lever to get their emissions under control.

I mean, who wants to run a 6 litre car if it kills fluffy bears?

 

Actually though, having now read the detail today it seems that they have managed to both list the Bear and also prevent themselves doing anything to help it

Not so much as a masterstroke than as a whimper then !

Oh well, the 6 litre car is alive and well it seems
