I have a 1-off requirement to ship a pallet of stuff to France and back for an event in the summer.

Anyone in the industry or know someone who is ... give me a ball park figure ? Trying to work out what my options are really.

Use Freight Alerts - Back Loads - Road Freight Exchange. If you want it backloaded (I.E.Cheap) put on a wagon with another load. (about £70 at a guess).
Or Courier Exchange: The Leading Freight Exchange Website for the Courier and Express Freight Industry, for immediate door to door service. You will have to pay about £1.10 per mile though unless it will fit in a small van like a Connect though. About 80p/mile in one of those.
I would quote myself if you were further north.
