Cool

There are two number plates I'd like, and I'd like to get hold of. Both are unavailable from the DVLA SOM or new reg etc, so I guess they have been issued. They are not too special, so I'd imagine the current owners aren't too bothered about them. The question is, how do I track down the owners and persuade them to sell me their plate?

I know that some of the reg plate companies will find a plate for you, but it appears that they make reg plates a little expensive

Any ideas much appreciated.

If it's on the DVLA site it's not on a car !

The DVLA holds the number.

Its not on the DVLA site, which is the problem

Also not listed by Midland Reg, Elite, New reg etc.

One of the plates is Very mundane, the other slightly more meaningful, but not likely to be wanted by too many people... I just want to trace the plates and see if I could afford them... Any Ideas?

Well, you need access to the PNC!

The DVLA will tell you the owner of a plate "in certain circumstances". I have written to the DVLA in the past explaining that I wanted to buy a plate that *had* been issued, and enclosing a letter to the current owner asking just that, for them to pass on, and they refused - helpful lot

I suppose you could put a false plate of the one you want to buy on your car, deliberately get pulled by plod, when they run a PNC check on you and say your name/address is false, tell them you have been suffering from amnesia and ask them to tell you who you really are and where you live..... - bit of a long shot this one though

hmm, I wonder how the reg companies find plates for you?

If only my mum had given me a middle name, at least then I could have just bought my initials
